Joining the animal frenzy!

Well, maybe a snail doesn't quite count as an animal, but I couldn't find my book of animal patterns (I didn't look very hard), so I turned to this favorite. Nancy Tracy at Be-stitched offered this pattern a few years ago, and the pattern can be found here. It's funny, the first time I made this, I thought it was so complicated! I've come a long way with my tatting, because I found it very simple this time around! I used size 20 Lizbeth, color #601.

This shuttle is another of Chris Hinton's (The Shuttle Shop). I bought it as an anniversary present to myself. (Dave prefers when I choose my own presents!) It has an opal set in the top, which is significant because it is the birth stone for October, and we were married in October. I have many beautiful shuttles that I love to use, and I thought it was about time for me to start sharing their beauty with my friends!

  3. Isn't it amazing how far we come without realizing it? When you return to a pattern that was "too much" for you, or you felt was complicated, and find it's not that hard, you suddenly realize the "light" has come on and you didn't really notice! The snail is cute and shuttle is lovely. Thanks for sharing them. (I'm a sucker for shuttles of any kind but pretty wooden ones... *ahhh*)

  4. Cute snail! That's an animal, just not of the barnyard variety. I found myself sharing an odd conversation with my daughter re: snails this morning as we walked. Beautiful shuttle!

  8. Bee-yoo-ti-ful shuttle and what a darling wee snail. And happy anniversary too!

Instead of wrestling with Clunies, perhaps I should be tatting cute critters like so many others are doing.
