Hanky time!

I finished attaching my Forget-me-not edging yesterday, and I love the way my hanky turned out! The pattern is from A Pattern Book of Tatting by Mary Konior. The thread is size 20 Lizbeth, Juicy Watermelon, color #156. The hanky is from a discount story near my mom's called Burke's.

I meant to order size 40 thread, because I thought it would look nice with the hanky. Still, I have no complaints!

I enjoyed making this edging so much, I started another! This pattern is Hen and Chick, also from A Pattern Book of Tatting by Mary Konior. The thread is Sulky 12 wt that I bought at the Sewing and Quilting Expo two weeks ago. I first tried this thread when Georgia Seitz sent me a sample about a year ago. I liked the thread so much, I purchased a sampler pack of Sulky, which turned out to be a much finer thread, 30 wt. The hanky is from Handy Hands. The shuttle is from Emsyjane, and it is a joy to use! I don't see Prym shuttles around here very often, although I was able to purchase two at the LaFayette Lace Day last weekend. I think they're much prettier when decorated! : )

I'm still working on the hanky I started months ago. It's taking me a long time, because the pattern just isn't holding my interest. I think I chose one that's just too simple. The pattern is Handkerchief edging #1 from The Craft of Tatting by Bessie M. Attenborough. The thread is size 80 Lizbeth, Marble, #121. The shuttle is from The Shuttle Shop, tatting by AnneB, acrylic shuttle by Chris Hinton. I'm so glad to have this shuttle. It holds a ton of thread!

I'm going to continue working on my hankies, but I'm getting the urge to work on something quick... perhaps a snowflake!

  1. Your finished hanky is beautiful! I love how the thread colours seem to perfectly echo the colours on the flowers! Nice work.

  3. Beautiful tatting, Diane. These edgings look wonderful in the threads you have there. MK's patterns are so amazing, as they always look good in any thread choices.

The hankies themselves look very nice as well. I love the one with the embroidery. Where did that come from?

    Kelly switch from needles? Hahhh!

  5. There is just no better combination of pattern and colour thread to match the hanky! Really amazing.

  6. I love hankies with tatted edgings, though I've never made one myself. I keep planning . . .

I especially love your Forget-me-not edging in Juicy Watermelon - it matches the hanky so perfectly!

I know what you mean about losing interest with some of the patterns - I seem to do that too.

  8. Very nice work on all of them! :-D I'm trying to pick out an edging for the hanky I just bought and I'm having a hard time - I don't want something too easy but I don't want anything too frilly, either. I'm bummed I don't have any of my tatting books with me - there's an edging in the Blomqvist book that I started once and think might be one that I would enjoy doing, but I can't remember the pattern! Grrr...

    P.S. I'm lovin' your shuttles, too... :-P

  12. Those are all so pretty! The first thread really goes well with the design!

Is that thread you're using like what they would sell at a craft store or a bit bigger? Tats out nicely!

  14. All three handkerchiefs are beautiful! I can totally understand about the simpler design losing its hold, for interest, on you. You'd think the simpler the design, the quicker you'd get it done!
I will have to get some of the Sulky sz 12 thread and check out Chris' shuttles!
