I'm not sure when I'll use a single shuttle split ring, but now I know I can! After our online Tat 'n Chat on Saturday, I was determined to master this technique. Despite my best efforts, I just could not make another ring.
Last night, I went to YouTube and found Karen Cabrera's video. Suddenly, everything clicked! Thank you, Karen!

I can't imagine you ever having only ONE shuttle so it's unlikely you'll use the technique but you never know.....
Gina is right . . . You and only one shuttle? Never happen. But I'm glad that the SSSR finally took. Wish I could get the Loop on Ring to stick for me, or even to come close to working more than once . . . .

Well done on the mastery of the SSSR. I do like tatting single shuttle edgings - I find them relaxing for a change and you don't need to re-wind your shuttle as you are only ever unwinding as you tat so I'm sure you will find them useful at some point. Remember the edging I made for Michelle's hanky? That was a one-shuttle edging and to fit around the curve, I used SSSRs.

Please share - what is the secret to having the loops close together? Mine have fiber lengths in between. I haven't figured out how to make them without the fiber showing in between.
I'm guessing there is a trick to it, I haven't been able to manage it (yet)

The dragon pattern... umm.... Flying Norwegian Dragons by Anne Bruvold calls for SSSR's! :-D

I really like Karen's videos.
I have a pattern for by Anne B. the Norwegian Minor dragon. It is single shuttle split rings for the body. Than there are a few humming bird patterns that are that. And another dragon I think by Martha Ess.
I enjoy the SSSR but I have to do it or practice it every few weeks so I don't forget how to do it. I'm going to find that Youtube video and check it out. Looks like you got it. Happy Thanksgiving!
