Change of pace

It seems that winter could finally arrive this week, and I need to be prepared! This morning I decided to start Elizabeth Zimmerman's rib warmer from Knitting Workshop. I made one for myself about 20 years ago, but I can't find it anywhere. I may have given it to one of my daughters, or I may have put it someplace really safe. In any case, I felt the need to have a nice warm wool vest. Luckily, I have a great stash of wool. I'm almost halfway on the first side, so maybe I'll have it finished by next weekend. I hope so!

  1. I have a pile of yarn that wants to become a rib warmer too . . . I just need time to help it get there. Can't wait to see how yours turns out!

  2. Wow - you are fast when winter is finally possible :) This weather is crazy - we grilled on the deck tonite. I'm sure it's the first time we've ever done that in January!

  3. So good to see Elizabeth Zimmerman's name! And that sent me to the internet, where it's great to know she is remembered with awe and reverence! It's wonderful that her daughter, Meg Swansen, has kept her legacy alive.

Somewhere among my knitting books are copies of the mimeographed typed pages that accompanied her original PBS series around 1968, which I watched in amazement when I was 24 (*sigh*). A knitter was actually on television!

I had already knit two sweaters before her series started, and was thrilled that she was advocating the Continental method, which I already was using. However, it took at least 20 more years for Continental knitting to be 'accepted' here in America.

I know you'll finish your rib warmer 'pronto'!

  4. I've wanted to knit a ribwarmer for so long!! - but am always intimidated by her instructions. I love knitting, but require "proper"patterns. I think that half the problem is that we just don't have the same weights of wool as you do in America, the yarn that is most readily available is 8-ply - double knitting. So the mathematics to adjust the stitches/tension etc is just too much effort for me!

  5. Lovely color has your future vest...I bet it's soft and fluffy....and as I can count, if you keep the same speed, we'll see it finished verrry soon :D
I do too, put things in "really safe" places :))
