Queen-sized Clover vs. SewMate

Melissa asked about the new Clover compared to the SewMate. So...

As you can see, they are basically the same size.

They hold about the same amount of thread, although I think I may be able to wind a few more yards on the Clover.

Do you think there's a difference between plastics? I do, and I prefer the feel of the Clover shuttle. Why is the pick tip on the SewMate so much more lethal than the Clover? I think it may be that the plastic is harder, but I'd be interested in reading the views of others.

I'm beginning to think that my collection of shuttles is very worthwhile! ;-)

  1. I am thinking this might be a very good size and it would be worth having a pair, as the SewMates are a good size. I just did not like the sharp point. This might be the answer to having more thread on the shuttle for larger shuttles. Though I love the bobbins, I do not like having to rewind all the time...

    Thanks for the comparison, Diane!

  2. I have always liked the size and feel of the sew mate - liked clover too, but being one who doesn't deal well with ends, preferred the sew mate. Now I guess I'll have to try some of the bigger clover!

  3. Interesting post about the size of them, it nice to have enough thread on the shuttle so you don't have to keep putting more on.

  4. Excellent shuttle review! I was wondering how big the new Queen-sized Clovers were, this is a very helpful comparison.

  5. I agree with you about the plastics! I just love the little Clover shuttles! Hmmm if it's the same size as the sew mate and I am Ok with that bigger size occasionally the other plastic is a plus on the clovers side, but the price is a deterrent, especially if they are the same size. Which is still a little big for my comfort but doable, just not my preference. I have the sew mate with the pick and they work well enough...but I will probably get a pair of the new ones anyway hahaha I do love the more flexible plastic. I've had the other kind break off the tip before because though the jewel tone clear is pretty, its stiff and can be brittle because of that! And I MUST have my pick tip! I think I would hate tatting if I didn't have that lifesaving versatile tip!I use it alllllllllllllllll the time... LOL ;-)
