Sorting shuttles

I spent a lot of time sorting shuttles today. I know I will unearth more as my house excavation (organization) continues, but I thought I'd share a few pictures.

My dad made this beautiful shuttle display case for me years ago. When he gave it to me, he told me I could only collect as many shuttles as would fit in this case. Dad, if you're looking down from heaven, you must be shaking your head in disbelief! ;-)

When Dad designed this, he put two pegs on each layer to keep the trays in place.

He also inserted little brass beads in the side of each tray to show the tray number.

Dad installed drawer pulls on the sides of each tray so that they can be lifted easily.

He also made a top tray with a glass cover so that the contents of the first tray could be seen.

Mom lined each drawer with felt, which helps keep everything from sliding around.

Tell the truth. Did you count the number of shuttles that I have in this display case?

  1. Only counted the handi-wind shuttles. It's a wonder that I was able to snag the few that I have, LOL

  2. I just showed Richard this post and he said I cannot be around you anymore and I can't look at your blog anymore because that is going a bit too far(of course he is teasing). :) I told him that I am positive there are plenty of shuttles that are not even shown because I don't see the blinged clover shuttles or the beautiful La Cossette shuttles(I think I have that right). I think you have a wonderful display and such fascinating shuttles too!!! :)

    1. Tell Richard that I'm inviting the two of you to come visit for a week. He can laugh at us as we find more shuttles hidden throughout the house, and he can get some ideas on how to enable you in your tatting collection! ;-)

You're right. There are more shuttles to be revealed!

    1. So true, Maureen. When the day comes that we need to downsize and move to a smaller home, I will whittle down my shuttle collection to what can fit in this display case. This is one piece I will never give up!

  10. My head is spinning! I was aware of your beautiful cabinet and drawers, but seeing the shuttles in this post all at once is mind blowing! Beautiful displays and organization of your fabulous collection! It would be difficult for me to pick a favorite. I do love the wood 'filigree' shuttles. And especially the seahorse. I never noticed that one before.

Thanks so much for posting this!
