Sixes and Sevens

I fiddled around with a new Ice Drop idea today. I used a 1" cabochon, so the patterns I've been using would not work. I call this Sixes and Sevens, because all the rings and chains are multiples of six and the pattern is repeated seven times.

Since the design on the cabochon has a paper backing, I coated it with sparkly nail polish. I'm not sure the nail polish would keep the paper backing in place if it was soaked, but it should help keep the cabochon looking nice for a long time.

I'm not really fond of the uneven look of seven pattern repeats. I much prefer the symmetry of six. Still, if there's enough interest, I'll write up the pattern. I have quite a few 1" cabochons, so I'll keep experimenting!

  1. Lovely! I noticed on icedrop addicts yesterday an icedrop with 7 repeats. I don’t think the lack of symmetry is a problem. Good idea to protect the carbochon with nail varnish.

    1. I know it's an individual preference. Funny, I don't mind 5 repeats, but 7 just looks off to me!

  2. I love this and we must thing alike. I often enjoy trying to make a patterns using the same numbers over and over again, I think it's fun and funny :)

  3. I don't mind an uneven number of repeats either. Your Icedrop is beautiful! I also like your tip to protect the cabochon :)

    1. I'm not sure the nail polish will do much good, but I figure it's better than nothing!

  4. Beautiful ice drop, I like this pattern, a lot of my gems are big and I have to do seven rings instead of six.

  5. I actually had to 'count' the spokes, as it wasn't obvious to me that there were seven! Looks fine to me! I believe you have now written up the pattern, and as usual, it's appreciated! The nail polish idea is a good one, and it's hard to imagine it would get 'soaked'!

It's difficult to keep up with all the wonderful Ice Drops here and on FB. It seems there are 'new' ideas for encapsulation, such as the recent 'square' one by Mandy, and the large all-circle discs by Sue. Is this the first time you have used all rings on the back (rather than a 'flower' shape), which then mirrors the front? It does seem as if the rings securely hold the discs, if they aren't too heavy.

Just like you, I love getting feedback!
