I use two shuttles with about 20 yards wound on each shuttle, continuous thread method. I do this so that I don't have to do the shoelace trick at the inside and outside edge. It also makes it much more convenient to carry with me. The last spoke can be a little tricky, so I did post my method of completing the doily here: https://lacelovinlibrarian.blogspot.com/2013/07/spinning-wheel-finished.html
Please let me know if I can help in any way!Lace-lovin' Librarian ~ Dianehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06032689683092213368noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8857704024517273961.post-79872087209224362342016-11-04T16:44:54.607-05:002016-11-04T16:44:54.607-05:00Congrats to Cubs! Have you posted any tips/hints for making this pattern? Looks like you only use one shuttle. Any idea how much thread it needs? This will be only my 2nd doily, I think I am hooking on tatting. Many thanks for sharing your amazing tatting with us.
SusanSusan Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01351939889284108150noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8857704024517273961.post-21618472282105125242016-11-04T13:32:55.011-05:002016-11-04T13:32:55.011-05:00It was shown on UK tv about the Cubs winning and I...It was shown on UK tv about the Cubs winning and I thought of you. Glad they did it.
The spinning wheel doily is giving me a fit. I keep losing track of which chain I am making, the one with one picot or the one with 2. Now I have to snip out a bit and fix it. I will finish it though. It does not look like 9 arms will be enough for mine, though it should.
Your Cubs doily will be wonderful. Send a photo of it to the clubhouse in Chicago. They may make you the official tatter of the Chicago Cubs!Tim Kaylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00080372450339022644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8857704024517273961.post-69743209104621609712016-11-04T02:20:53.131-05:002016-11-04T02:20:53.131-05:00More than a century - that's a long time to go...More than a century - that's a long time to go between wins!! No wonder you're excited. Interesting experiments, you're making progress in putting your idea into practice. Fantastic that there are still some of the children tatting, hooray. What a nail-biter finish to the Series! I didn't watch, but was delighted to hear the result! I understand a t-shirt company near here had prematurely printed Indians Champion t-shirts, and were up all night trying to get the 'right' ones out as quickly as possible! I do give a nod to the Indians for a fine effort! Just getting to the Series is a triumph, and I'm sure this is difficult for them. The Pirates have been down that path, too!

You still managed to put this post together after a sleepless night and subbing today!
Great photo of your amazing October accomplishments. Really like those Snowdrops!

I've been wondering about your 'former' tatting students. So great to hear they are still interested in tatting!
