Mail call!
It was a great day to open up the mailbox... inside were three packages containing two new shuttles and two new threads! From bottom left: my new shuttle from Sherry Pence aka LadyShuttlemaker, my twin shuttle from Dave Stanbrough at Grizzly Mountain Arts, Sherbert (yellow/peach/wisteria) hand-dyed #10 thread from Bre-Aly Threads, and Pensacola Beach hand-dyed #80 thread from Sherry Pence.
I tried Sherry's method of using a pillow to hold my thread while I wound it on to a Yarn Daisy by CraftLocker. Sherry's pillow idea worked even better than holding the thread with my feet... when the phone rang, I just set down the pillow and walked over to the phone... very simple!
What is it today...everyone's posting their new shuttle by Sherry...arg...I'm beginning to feel left out. What a fun stash you got today. Here's a question for ya. That green thing is that just a way roll up the hank of thread to keep it from getting all tangled?
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the green thing! I used to use a toilet paper roll, but this is so much cuter! I think a daisy cut out of heavy cardboard or plastic would do the same thing. I found these at Stitches Midwest last fall and couldn't resist them! I tend to hoard things too! Not just tatting related items either... knitting, crocheting, sewing, books... I'm sure we're kindred spirits! : )
ReplyDeleteLOL...yes, the green thing is much cuter than a toilet paper tube. I'll bet a scrapbook supply store would have daisy-shaped chipboard and you could make it any color you like...even match the thread! (hee hee) It's so hard not to pass up a good deal, but I don't have much room and I like things organized and tidy so I try to keep a handle on my hoarding...it's limited to my crafting...I scrapbook and do cake decorating, and read poetry books as well as the tatting, crochet and knitting...kindred spirits, indeed!
ReplyDeleteP.S. What is "Stitches Midwest" a store? an event? do they have an online store?
Hey...I'm glad you tried the pillow thing....cuz I tried the foot thing and I like both ways!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting your shuttle....I hope you like the larger size!
Stitches Midwest is a knitting/crocheting extravaganza sponsored by Knitters Magazine. Stitches West was in February in Santa Clara, CA. If you log on to knittinguniverse.com you can find out when and where next year's Stitches West will be held. My daughter and I have gone the past two years and really enjoyed ourselves! There are classes, but they're kind of expensive, and I'd rather buy materials and books and figure things out on my own. I think it costs $10 to get in, and then the sky's the limit as far as looking goes! Alison and I limit ourselves by taking the amount of money we feel we can spend and a canvas tote to carry our goodies. If it doesn't fit the budget or the tote, we pass it up. Beware... it's easy to develop fiber envy!
ReplyDeleteSherry, I'm sure I'll love the larger size. One of my favorite shuttles is the first one I purchased from you, and it's a larger size. I love the amount of thread I can fit on your shuttles... especially important when using larger threads!
ReplyDeleteHey, I'll check it out. Did you know about the Lace Day in L.A. area the first Saturday of every November? Most the major lace vendors are there and you can look at all the things you see online first hand...they even sell rubber stamps with tatting designs...so many shuttles, and thread...so little time. And all the tatters...It's hilarious we all look like a bunch of raccoons in a room full of shiny objects
ReplyDeleteI have a huge smile on my face over your LadyShuttleMaker shuttle. Regarding my L-S-M-er shuttle on my blog you wrote "Lucky you! That shuttle was going to be my second purchase of the 2008 series." I originally had YOURS in my etsy shopping cart but when I went to check out it had already been purchased. You have great taste :-) Aren't they awesome?!?!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I think we both have excellent taste! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. I haven't used my new one yet, but some of my others sing to me as I tat!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting about our shuttle! We love it when our customers love their shuttles :)
ReplyDeleteTwo new shuttles on the same day, I think you are spoiled.
ReplyDeleteDiane,
ReplyDeleteDid you see that your blog post was featured on grizzly mountain arts blog? If you didn't know you might go check it out.
What fun when you get something like that in your mail. Joy oh joy, I particular like your new shuttle. As for myself I prefer shuttles made out of wood, it is something about the texture that makes me very happy. I guess it is because it has a feeling of life in it compared to plastic ones.
ReplyDeleteQuestion - are you planning to use the thread you purchased from Bre-Aly for tatting. I'm planning to go shopping.
ReplyDeleteZarina, I will certainly try tatting with the Bre-Aly thread, but I really purchased it to crochet a Patricia Kristoffersen doily. I'll try a motif this weekend and post about it.
