Slowly but surely...

I'm getting the hang of it! My bobbin lace pillow arrived yesterday, along with spangled bobbins, a pattern book, thread, pins, and a pin cushion. Thank you for the recommendation, Tatman!

First, I made my pricking... what a feeling of accomplishment! Next, I wound the bobbins, which took me a really long time, because I kept dropping the bobbins! I felt like such a fumble fingers! Then, I read and re-read the directions for the worm bookmark before getting started. Try as I might, I could not make sense of them! Then early this morning, I remembered that the instructor last week had numbered the bobbins and taught us the moves using the bobbin numbers. I made myself a little cheat sheet this afternoon, and the motions finally made sense to me! I was so proud of myself when I successfully added the beads for the eyes.

I know I'm taking baby steps, but I'm confident that I'll be able to make beautiful bobbin lace soon!

  6. Wow. If I tried that my two year old would have her own version of lace done in no time....with bobbins in her hair, in the toybox, and who knows wherever else..... :-)

Way to go. You are way more ambitious than I!

  7. This is wonderful! And you even are into adding beads. With all the lace I have made there is only one instance I had to add a bead for an eye(or anything for that matter). Just never use beads much with my lace. You are going so well. You are HOOKED...MUHAHAHAHA....Bobbins got ya ;)

  8. OMG, no way could I do this. This looks really hard. Baby steps or not, good for you.... I don't think I have enough hands for bobbin lace much less the coordination. I'll keep checking on you and see if you can do it. Good luck and have fun.

  11. Good for you! More things to play with. One day I'd like to learn Romanian Point Lace. I've just started messing around with hairpin lace myself, but I've got nothing to show for it...yet.

  12. Great work - it's a slow process but one day it will just "click" and all fall in to place. (It's a bit like the "click" in tatting).

    Love your blog.
