Easily distracted

What have I been doing since my last post? Many things... I've read Mary Card: Australian Crochet-Lace Designer, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

I started a lace edging for a handkerchief, messed it up, and threw it out. I've crocheted three pieces from The Technique of Filet Crochet with Mary Card Designs and Methods (two had mistakes). I've been practicing spinning with a drop spindle... I really want to master this, but somehow I keep messing up. I've been working on Jon's fold-over bookmark (I've messed up two, but now have successfully completed the first part on the third try), and I tatted this Spinning Wheel glass mat from Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior.

When I can't make up my mind as to which project I want to start next, I always turn to this pattern. For me, it's very soothing! The thread is in lovely shades of green, size 20, hand-dyed by Krystle.

Sigh... I wonder what I should do next?

  1. This is beautiful. I find this pattern soothing too. The color is wonderful. Distractions are sometimes good. Relax, take a breath and do something fun and easy. The complicated patterns will wait. Hugs, Linda

  2. I've got a friend who's reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Is it good? Should I add it to my list?

Look at it this way. Summer is almost here; you'll have time for any project you want!

  3. Lucky you to get so much reading done! I'm currently trying to read a Lillian Gish biography but it's slow going right now.

Sometimes there are simply too many choices of what to do and the best thing is exactly what you're doing, tatting the comfortable familiar one.

  4. When I started to tat from mom, and did the practicing and whilst that I'd made a lot of errors. You know, like missing the second half stitch, hard to close the ring, and even got a weird ring etc. What I did was that I took some time after that, but not really 'some', but in fact a 1 whole week off tatting until mom thought i was giving up.Then, I started doing it again, and I made it.Just like that.Sometimes we just need a break, its a kinda natural therapy to me, and at least it works for me!

  5. LOL! You sound like me when I am at loose ends - or loose threads... You will probabl hit upon something and everything will go the right way again!

Those Steig Larsson books are wonderful! I am awaiting the release in Canada of the third book - available in Sweden for a year or so! A fellow I know read it in Swedish last year, and says it is even better than the first two!

  8. Diane, You and your spinning wheel glass mat will never be parted, :) Lovely colour.

I don't think I have a pattern that does that to me like the spinning glass mat does to you. But one think I know. If I start on a book I will not put the book down until I finish reading it. And I have not read much lately because of the tatting that I have to do, LOL.

  10. The spinning wheel is a great pattern isn't it? Krystle's green does look lovely as a S.W.

    Another beautiful piece of art.
