Have I ever mentioned that blue is my favorite color? At the Downers Grove lace event, I purchased a few balls of blue thread, including this beautiful Oren Bayan size 50. I had the urge to tat a bookmark, and here's what I came up with.
The two motifs are Mary Konior's "Bud Fragments" from Tatting with Visual Patterns. I decided to be brave and try tatting it all in one piece, and I surprised myself! I tatted the fragment on the left first, tatted my chain, and then started the other motif with a split ring. It was a bit of a challenge for me to tat the pattern in reverse order so that it resembled Mary's design, but I achieved my goal!
Now for my product review... Best Press. Normally, I just steam my smaller pieces, and I'm usually a bit displeased with the end result. For larger pieces, I thoroughly wet and use my blocking board. This time, I tried steaming, and again, I wasn't completely pleased with the result. Then, I sprayed on the Best Press, and positioned all the rings and chains... they stayed exactly where I wanted them! I think I'll be using Best Press regularly. : )
that's a very interesting bookmark, diane! never thought i'd do one like this. thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for a bookmark - you are brave to reverse tat in my book!
ReplyDeleteI love using the Best Press for blocking. I bought one with a scent, and like the slight fragrance on my finished tatting too.
I like it! Blue is definately a beautiful color.
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar w/ Best Press, I'll have to see if I can find it.
Your bookmark turned out great!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a great idea for those two motifs. Your bookmark is lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous bookmark and then to tat in reverse too! Wow!!
ReplyDeleteMKs fragments are so pretty! Very clever bookmark.
ReplyDeleteFox : )
You like blue? Really? lol
ReplyDeleteVery nice bookmark!
I love the color and the idea of tatting two different motifs at each end. What a wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteI love it!! The color is so pretty and what a great idea for a bookmark!
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific use for the bud fragments! I never would have thought of that in a million years.
ReplyDeleteI love your bookmark. That is a great use for those motifs. Best Press? I'll have to look for that one.
ReplyDeleteI remember the fiber - how beautiful the tatted motifs ! I really should look and see if I have that book - i think i do, not sure I've tried any patterns, tho.
ReplyDeleteI am beading bracelets. It is a challenge for me. I am determined to get the spiral part done (I have two kits - one more ordered).
Then my beadie buddies can instruct the 'finishing' and 'toggle adding' on the ends!
Great bookmark! :)
ReplyDeleteYour newest blue bookmark is beautiful. Your tatting is so perfect in its stitches. Happy tatting...
ReplyDeleteI love the bookmark! Blue is also my favorite color. I haven't made those motifs yet but now that I've seen this I'll give them a try.
ReplyDeleteI use Best Press all the time for quilting and just started using it to block my tatting. I love it! I like the way it finishes it and love the smell. My only problem with it is that it is only available in my area in a few quilt shops. I wish Joann's or Hobby Lobby would get it so I wouldn't have to make a special trip. I recommend this stuff highly!
