Before Christmas break, the kids at school were asking me for decorated tatting shuttles. Of course I didn't have time to decorate shuttles because of all the Christmas presents I chose to make, but I did promise them that I'd work on shuttles over the break.
As always, time flies when I'm having fun, and I realized yesterday that I hadn't started the shuttles. While I was meeting with the Tollway Tatters, Dave sanded the shuttles for me. So today was shuttle day!
The first step was preparing my work space. Trust me, it didn't stay this neat!
I painted both sides of the shuttles with white acrylic paint.
Next, I used ModPodge to adhere paper napkins to the shuttles.
Trimming the excess paper took quite a while.
I've put one coat of glitter ModPodge on each side of the shuttles. Tomorrow I'll put two coats of matte ModPodge on each side, and then I'll seal each side with spray on acrylic. I think the kids will like them!

So pretty. I would be hard not to keep some of them!
ReplyDeleteWhat shuttles are they> - I mean, what style? Lucky kids, and I am looking forward to seeing more of their efforts in learning this year. Emily is six, and she is very interested in my tatting, but I think is just a little TOO young, to really learn - we're having a bit of trouble with knitting. In a couple of years when she's the age of your third graders, maybe she will be ready.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!!! I know they will love them!!!! They are all so bright and wonderfully fun!!! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, the children will love them! So sparkly and bright, a great incentive to get tatting.

Wow, what a production line Diane! They look really pretty in all the different designs and colours. Your students will be pleased with them. Wishing you all the best for 2015!
ReplyDeleteI am soooooo envious of your students having such pretty shuttles
ReplyDeleteI love them and my favorite is the American flag one and how you cut out the design just right with that angle! Hey if you have time could you measure that Monster doily at the end of round 3 mine measures just a tad over 5 inches but I am using size 40 thread and yours looks same size (from the pictures) I was just curious :)
ReplyDeleteWhat lucky students you have!
ReplyDeleteMy, what pretty shuttles you have! :-) They all look great. I'm sure your students will love them. It's great to hear that you have so many students that are still so eager to tat! 2015 looks to keep you busy with eager young tatters.

ReplyDeleteGreat shuttles - from a great tatting teacher and advocate! Way to keep those kids inspired :) (not to mention your adult tatting friends!)
ReplyDeleteI would love it too with the glitter.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the process. Something I may get my hands on.
