Last night was the first practice for the middle school production of Bugsy Malone. Daughter Carol was short-handed and the full cast of 45 was scheduled to be there, so I was asked to come help keep the kiddos in line. My help really wasn't necessary, because the kids are so well behaved, but it was nice to be included!
As a result, I had no time for tatting yesterday... sigh! Sometimes life just gets in the way.
I did take my knitting with me to play practice. I have to tell you, the theory behind Sequence Knitting has been eye opening for me! I'm on my fourth scarf, and I'm still on page 9 of the book! Sometimes it just takes the right combination of instructor and student to make things click!
I belong to the Tatting Shuttle Addicts page on Facebook, and Monica Braxton is the current official shuttle maker for the group. One side of the shuttle has the TSA logo.
The other side can be engraved with your name... always a draw for me! This is Monica's "Eddie" shuttle, and it can be ordered with or without a hook. I may have to order another with a hook, just so that I can say I have one! ;-)
Sandra Pellerin of Elite Creation asked me to post a comparison of her large bobbin shuttle with a regular sized bobbin shuttle on the TSA page. I thought it might be interesting to those of you who do not belong to that group. As you can see, it's slightly longer than my LaCossette shuttle.
It's also thicker!
The larger bobbin holds a full 15 yards of size 10 thread.
Although bobbin shuttles are not my favorite to use, I do enjoy collecting them and I do use every one at least once! After all, I want each of my shuttles to feel loved! ;-)

I like the comparison with the shuttles and the TSA shuttle sounds like a fun group to join but I haven't a face book page yet, don't think I could keep up with that!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly deserve to belong to the shuttle addicts group! Interesting to see the comparison.
ReplyDeleteBugsy Malone is one of my favorite movies. It isn't on disc. I didn't know they had a play! What fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks also for the shuttle pics and info about the group. I had no idea about it.

Ah the comparison between the shuttles and bobbins thank you Diane, must do that when the larger ones that are being made in the garage are finished.
ReplyDeleteInteresting shuttle comparison! I like your idea of using each shuttle at least once, so that it feels loved :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I lived closer so that I could come see the play!
You are going to have a fabulous scarf collection, or wonderful gifts!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing the comparison Diane. I'm surprised to see that the Elite shuttle is not hugely larger than a standard bobbin shuttle… which means it should be nice to work with! :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely scarf you are knitting. I am not familiar with "sequence knitting" so will have to look into what it is. My knitting skills lack drastically. Love your newest shuttles and how sweet of you to use each one at least once so it knows how much you adore them all. Creative Bliss...
ReplyDeleteAn amazing post, as usual! It's so special that you can assist (and sometimes perform in!) these productions with your daughter! I'm assuming you know most of the kids at Middle School. I'm so impressed with Carol's special talent to do this!
ReplyDeleteAnd there you are, knitting up a storm! I was quite delighted with my swatch of the Lyden pattern, done on some leftover yarn, and I had to run out today to get new yarn to work on a 'real' project, whatever that will be - either a scarf or another vest. I love the texture created by that sequence!
Also a very impressive comparison and report on the shuttles.
I've never been a tatting shuttle addicted but love reading your posts about all those different type of shuttles. Thank you for the comparision.
ReplyDeleteIf you counted my shuttles you might think I am an addict but I am not. I tend to have many projects on the go. Love your shuttle adventures, hope you get to see those twins soon.
