February tatting

First, let me thank all of you who responded to my request for help. I really appreciate your input, and I will share your responses with Etta. If anyone else has something to add, please feel free to let me know!

Today I finished round 4 of my Concentric Rectangles doily. I really like this pattern, and my shuttles are wound and ready for the final round!

I apologize for the dark pictures. I turned on every light in the living room, and this is what I got! I'm very please with what I accomplished in February. I'm not sure I can keep up the pace in March, but I'm sure going to give it the old college try!

HELP!

My friend Etta emailed me today with a tatting question. I admit it... I'm stumped!

We're looking at the book 24 Snowflakes in Tatting by Lene Bjorn, 20. December. Has anyone tatted this snowflake? Part of my problem is that I can only find my Danish copy of the book right now. The English version is probably tucked away in a project bag with a partially finished snowflake attached.

The question is how to proceed with M through P. Can you help? Etta and I would very much appreciate any insight you can provide!

I haven't taken any time to tat yet today. However, I did finish weaving this super soft scarf! I haven't decided what I want to do with the fringe yet, so I've just left it long until I make a decision.

My 13-year-old granddaughter Eva was baptized today. It was quite an emotional and joyous event! I have never seen so many people so excited in one place. There must have been a dozen baptisms today: middle school students, a newly married couple, a couple expecting their first baby. I think there were just as many adults as students. I've never been to a baptism event like this before. I'm used to infant baptisms. It really was quite moving!

A great day for tatting!

We went up to Alison's to work on her bathroom again. Although Dave accomplished a great deal, it's not done yet. So, while Dave worked, I tatted!

On the drive up, I worked on my latest Spinning Wheel glass mat. I didn't get very far, but that's okay. I'm really not in a rush.

I'm really pleased with the progress I made on my Concentric Rectangles doily. With luck, I'll finish this round tomorrow!

I've already decided which color I will use for the last round. Can you guess which color I chose?

Starting round 4

I knew that I wanted round 4 of my Concentric Rectangles doily to be in Lizbeth Wedgewood DK, so my shuttles were already wound and ready to go. This pattern is so easy to tat, and I love the way it looks! I haven't decided yet if the final round will be in the Leaf Green Lt or the Antique Violet Med. I know which one I'm leaning toward today. Which one would you choose?

My newest Spinning Wheel glass mat is in size 20 Lizbeth, Vineyard Harvest #131. I think I'm going to love this one!

Snow day part 2

We had no school again today. Many of the roads were drifted closed, and there was no way for traffic to get through. In fact, our little town made the Chicago news with 50 - 70 cars/semis stranded in snow drifts east of town, about three miles south of us.

We live on a north/south road, so we didn't have as much drifting. However, it was pretty slick. These people slid off the road and into the ditch right by our mailbox. Luckily, they were able to get a tow truck and were on their way in about a half hour.

I did get quite a bit of housework done today, probably because I broke the chores into 15-20 minute segments. As a reward for cleaning, I gave myself plenty of time to tat! So, I was able to finish the third round of my Concentric Rectangles doily. I'm sure we'll be back in school tomorrow, so there won't be much progress made before the weekend.

I do like this pattern, but I think I'll hold off on the tablecloth idea. It will be interesting to see how long it takes me to tat the next two rounds!

Snow day tatting

We had a snow day today, which was very odd since the weather has been so warm lately. I'm really hoping that the plows can clear the road tonight. It's pretty nasty out there!

The upside is that I had some extra tatting time today!

I finished the second round of my Concentric Rectangles doily. The pattern is really easy to follow. I did make a few mistakes that I had to fix, but that was probably because I was watching t.v. while I was tatting. :-)

This evening I finished my newest Spinning Wheel glass mat. This one is in size 20 Lizbeth, Antique Violet Med. #640. It's time to reload my shuttles!

Concentric Rectangles

While browsing the Internet for hanky edging ideas, I found a pattern for a Concentric Rectangles doily.

This is the center of the doily. Once the pattern is memorized, the doily can be any size you like! Maybe I should attempt a tatted tablecloth for my dining room table. ;-)

Leaf Green Lt. Spinning Wheel

I love the way this one turned out! This makes my 14th Spinning Wheel glass mat for 2016. I've already pulled out the next color!

Sunday, February 21, 2016

What next?

I finished the ring and chain edging on my hanky, but I feel it needs more. From the beginning, I intended that there would be a second round, however, I haven't found a pattern that catches my eye for the second round. Do you have any ideas, or should I leave it as it is?

We went to visit friends today, so I finished a little more tatting on my latest Spinning Wheel while we Dave was driving. I do like the color of this one!

Hanky time

We spent another Saturday at Alison's working on her house. Dave worked. Alison ran the kids around. I tatted! Even using size 20 thread, it takes a long time to tat a hanky edging. I didn't take any extra thread with me, so here is where I had to stop. I think that's pretty good progress for one day!

I did have my shuttles loaded for another Spinning Wheel glass mat. This one is in size 20 Lizbeth, Leaf Green Lt. #683.

You'd think I'd get tire of tatting this pattern, but I don't. In fact, I can hardly wait to see what it will look like in the next color a pull out of the tub of thread I have on hand!

White?

I realized that out of all the Spinning Wheels I've tatted over the years, I have never before tatted one in white. Why not? The sample in Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior is in white. The cone of Lizbeth that I purchased for my Jan Stawasz Masterpiece was sitting next to my chair, so white is what I chose!

Now that I've tatted one in white, I'm ready to go back to color!

Arctic Waters Spinning Wheel

Dave had to work late tonight, so I had plenty of time to finish my Arctic Waters Spinning Wheel! What color should I grab next?

Tuesday, February 16, 2016

Two new projects

As you can see, I've started my next Spinning Wheel glass mat! This one is in size 10 Lizbeth, Arctic Waters #185.

I prefer white hankies to colored ones, but I had picked this one up at Hobby Lobby on the clearance rack. I really love sales! I spent quite a bit of time looking at hanky edgings, but couldn't find one that put me in the mood to tat. I decided to try and do my own thing. I think I had three false starts before I settled on this simple ring and chain combo. I have a feeling this will be a two-round edging, but we'll have to see how I feel as I proceed!

Midnight Mist Spinning Wheel

Today I finished another Spinning Wheel glass mat, bringing my total to 11 for 2016! This one is in size 20 Lizbeth Twirlz, Midnight Mist #407.

I already have my shuttles wound for the next one!

Sweet finishes

I had time to finish two projects today!

I started this Kenner scarf from Sequence Knitting way before Christmas. I can't believe how long it took me to complete! The yarn is Pomegranate Stripe, I Love This Yarn, from Hobby Lobby.

The highlight of my day was finishing my Primrose Path doily. I wanted to finish it in time for Presidents' Day, and I did it!

Almost there

I had quite a bit of tatting time today, so I'm almost finished... only two pattern repeats to go!

Primrose Path doily for A Pattern Book of Tatting by Mary Konior, size 20 Lizbeth Wedgwood DK and Angel's Love

Having fun

Yes, I did get some housework done today and I did finish all the laundry, so I did not feel at all guilty about the time I took out for tatting!

I'm very happy to be halfway around the outside edge of my Primrose Path doily. With any luck, I'll finish it this weekend.

Part of my success with my Spinning Wheel goal is that I reload my shuttles as soon as I finish one. I'm always prepared with carry-along tatting!

I didn't go anywhere today, but I did take the time to start another Spinning Wheel. This one is in size 20 Lizbeth Twirlz, Midnight Mist #407. It reminds me of charcoal sketches. I think I must have received this color as a gift, as it doesn't seem like a color I would normally be drawn to. I do like the way it looks!

Blaze Spinning Wheel

I finished another Spinning Wheel glass mat today. This one is in size 20 Lizbeth Twirlz, Blaze #409. It has a similar look to Jane's HWT. However, since Jane is combining her own threads, she has many more color possibilities!

In case you haven't been following my Spinning Wheel challenge, the pattern is from Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior. It's my all-time-favorite pattern!

I also made good progress on my Primrose Path doily, another pattern by Mary Konior. This one is from A Pattern Book of Tatting. The thread is size 20 Lizbeth, Angel's Love and Wedgewood DK.

We have no school tomorrow in celebration of Lincoln's birthday. I could spend the day tatting, but I think I'm going to get my housework out of the way so that I can enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Starting the final round

I'm feeling kind of tired tonight, so I'm going to be satisfied with one primrose motif on the final round. Do you see the bow on the top left? I decided that I didn't want to look for the right side every time I start a new motif, so I marked the first one. Now I know where to go next!

Primrose Path doily is from A Pattern Book of Tatting by Mary Konior. The thread is size 20 Lizbeth, Wedgwood DK and Angel's Love.

Chain, chain, chain

Chains of blue!

The middle section of my Primrose Path doily is finished, and I'm ready four the outer primrose motifs. I do love this pattern!

Monday, February 8, 2016

Primrose Path center

The center section of my Primrose Path doily is finished! Now there are four rounds of chains. The last time I made this doily, my chains were very uneven. I'm going to try and be more consistent this time around. It's good to set goals, right?

Tat Chat Heart

I don't tat hearts very often. They're just not my cup of tea. However, this one caught my eye. The Tat Chat Heart pattern is by LaRae Mikulecky. I think it would look better in a solid color, but Angel's Love #151 was right my my chair, so that's what I used.

What to tat next? I think I'll work on my Primrose Path doily tonight while the Super Bowl is on. I really don't care which team wins. I just enjoy watching a good game!

Plenty of time to tat

Dave was working on Alison's downstairs bathroom, and Alison was busy running the kids here, there, and everywhere. So, I had plenty of time to tat!

My newest Spinning Wheel glass mat is in size 20 Lizbeth, Angel's Love #151.

Before we left this morning, I managed to finish the second primrose motif for my Primrose Path doily. I do like the red, white, and blue together!

Primrose motif

I've been looking through some of my favorite pattern books, and I'm always drawn to my Mary Konior books first. I love her Primrose Path pattern from A Pattern Book of Tatting. So, I decided to see what it would look like in red, white and blue. I think I like it!

Thursday, February 4, 2016

Wedgewood DK Spinning Wheel

I finished it! I do love this shade of blue.

I've been leafing through my pattern books, trying to decide what to work on next. There are so many patterns I want to try, but I need something simple. Maybe I'll try another hanky edging. For tonight, I think I'll just take a mine break from tatting.

Wednesday, February 3, 2016

Keep on spinning!

This week's Spinning Wheel glass mat is coming along great! I'm using Lizbeth size 20, Wedgewood DK #656. I do love this color!

Tuesday, February 2, 2016

Every girl needs a backup!

Since I rarely do one of anything at one time, including reading a book, I decided I needed a backup bookmark. This is the same pattern as the one I completed yesterday, but I think it looks completely different in a solid color (Lizbeth Salmon Med #628). The flowers motif isn't as obvious to me.

I decided to braid the tassel. What do you think?

Monday, February 1, 2016

I needed a bookmark

So I tatted this one from the back of my Moonlit tatting shuttle package in Lizbeth Peacock Blues. Now I'm ready for a new book!
