Square Coaster finished

I finished Robin Perfetti's Square Coaster today, with a couple of hiccups. I was watching the Chicago Cubs baseball game and messed up a corner. I decided to retro-tat rather than snip. Looking back, I wish I had snipped! It took me over two hours to get back to my mistake and fix it. I really think I could have re-tatted in less time. Then when I was pressing it, I noticed that one of the chains is missing a picot and three double stitches. I haven't decided yet, but I may snip the second round and tat it over again.

I do love this pattern, and I was very happy that Lizbeth #709 River Blue Dk is such a good match for the hand-dyed Pond from Yarnplayer.

So what do you think? Should I fix round two or leave well enough alone?

  1. Cut it out or retro-tat is always such a hard decision to make. I think I have an aversion to cutting, but you are so right! Sometimes it would be much faster to grab the scissors. It's a beautiful square. All of Robin's coasters I've seen so far are really lovely.

  2. If you are going to snip it, Diane, why not cut out just enough to fix this chain? I'd probably cut in a ring though.

    1. The only reason I didn't cut was because I was sure I'd snip the wrong thing and be forced to tat all of it over again! I'll probably leave it for a day or two and then fix it. I know it will drive me crazy! ;-)

    1. The mistake is at the top; the right section should have three picots and it only has two.

  4. When you could snip & re-tat JS' Monster Doily several times, this coaster is pretty easy-going to spend too much thought on (although I cannot see where the 'mistake' is) ;-) The colours are beautiful, as is the pattern.

    1. You are so right! My main reason for fixing it is to show off the beauty of the hand-dyed thread.

  5. The blue color goes perfectly with the hand dyed thread. I hate retro tatting, and will only ever do it for a handful of stitches. I can't see the mistake in your tatting, but I know how bothersome it can be to know it is there!

    1. Such a pretty pattern deserves an attempt at perfection!

  6. Love the colors and the coaster. If you plan to make another one anyway, I think I would leave it. If not, I would try Eliz's idea.

    1. I love the color, too! That's why I want it to look perfect. So, I'll probably fix it. :-)

  8. Mmm, I can't spot the mistake, so I think you should leave it. Fantastic match, the blue and the multicolour, well done to you. I'm with Robin, I'll only retrotat a few stitches. I like Michelle's idea, leave this one as is and make another one!

  9. Beautiful colours they go so well together, I tatted mine on a coach, and I had to undo a ring on a moving coach and that took a while, I can't see the mistake but it's up to you, it's an easy pattern but I find the easier the pattern the more likely you are of making a mistake.

    1. I agree, Margaret. Simple patterns seem to cause me the most trouble!

  10. Those colours are meant to be together. They look wonderful. I say save this one to add to a CQ block, covering the corner you don't like. No one will see the error, and it'll look fabulous.

  11. Leave it, it is only a coaster and you can cover it with your mug. Alternatively, another coaster can be tatted up very quickly.
