I spent a lot of time sorting shuttles today. I know I will unearth more as my house excavation (organization) continues, but I thought I'd share a few pictures.
My dad made this beautiful shuttle display case for me years ago. When he gave it to me, he told me I could only collect as many shuttles as would fit in this case. Dad, if you're looking down from heaven, you must be shaking your head in disbelief! ;-)
When Dad designed this, he put two pegs on each layer to keep the trays in place.
He also inserted little brass beads in the side of each tray to show the tray number.
Dad installed drawer pulls on the sides of each tray so that they can be lifted easily.
He also made a top tray with a glass cover so that the contents of the first tray could be seen.
Mom lined each drawer with felt, which helps keep everything from sliding around.
Tell the truth. Did you count the number of shuttles that I have in this display case?

Only counted the handi-wind shuttles. It's a wonder that I was able to snag the few that I have, LOL
ReplyDeleteHaha! I think I have some more hands-wind shuttles. I'll let you know if and when I find them! ;-)
DeleteI just showed Richard this post and he said I cannot be around you anymore and I can't look at your blog anymore because that is going a bit too far(of course he is teasing). :) I told him that I am positive there are plenty of shuttles that are not even shown because I don't see the blinged clover shuttles or the beautiful La Cossette shuttles(I think I have that right). I think you have a wonderful display and such fascinating shuttles too!!! :)
ReplyDeleteTell Richard that I'm inviting the two of you to come visit for a week. He can laugh at us as we find more shuttles hidden throughout the house, and he can get some ideas on how to enable you in your tatting collection! ;-)
DeleteYou're right. There are more shuttles to be revealed!
I not only adore your amazing collection of shuttles, I am in love with the display case your Dad made for you and your collection.
ReplyDeleteHe is probably smiling because he knew you would collect even more shuttles. Priceless Treasures Dear...
The display case, a jewelry box, and a hand-carved gnome are my favorite treasures from my dad.
DeleteWhat a magnificent display case! Filled with beautiful shuttles. I didn't count them, just admired them.
ReplyDeleteDad totally surprised me! Mom said it gave him fits, but he was determined to finish it as a surprise for me.
DeleteWhat a great collection, I like how you have tatting in the bottom of the trays.
ReplyDeleteI do like having my tatting in the bottom of the trays. As I've been sorting, I've found lots more tatting that can be put to good use!
DeletePiękna gablota i imponująca kolekcja czółenek.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I do enjoy collecting!
DeleteWonderful collection of shuttles, I lost count how many you have but I don't think that's all of them, wonderful cabinet to keep them in,
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Margaret. There are plenty more to come!
DeleteI think the display case is more precious than all your beautiful shuttles! - something to be treasured.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Maureen. When the day comes that we need to downsize and move to a smaller home, I will whittle down my shuttle collection to what can fit in this display case. This is one piece I will never give up!
DeleteTienes una autentica joya, tanto por el trabajo de tu padre como por tu hermosa colección de lanzaderas.Besos.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteWow I am up to late to count :) I must say you have displayed them so beautifully and makes me feel like saying congratulations this is the best display I have ever seen on a post. I know you have more ha ha ha :)
DeleteMy head is spinning! I was aware of your beautiful cabinet and drawers, but seeing the shuttles in this post all at once is mind blowing! Beautiful displays and organization of your fabulous collection! It would be difficult for me to pick a favorite. I do love the wood 'filigree' shuttles. And especially the seahorse. I never noticed that one before.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting this!
That cabinet is a treasure !!! So much love and care and thought went into making it - can never be replicated. Love the way you laid your tatting over the felt.
