Distractions

I've had the most wonderful distractions for almost five weeks now, but the fun is about to end. Joanne and kids will be heading home this weekend. I sure am going to miss having them around!

My sister and her grandchildren had so much fun visiting last week, they decided to come again this week. We had a day filled with wagon rides, lawn mowing, feeding chickens, playing in the treehouse, eating ice cream... everything kids love to do!

Needless to say, I was too tired to tat!

Some members of the Pin Loom Weaving Support Group on Facebook are planning a Tour de Fleece type challenge for pin loom weavers. I'm not sure of the details yet, but I think the plan is to weave one square a day for the month of July.

I haven't done any pin loom weaving since before Christmas, so I figured I ought to warm up a bit in case I decide to take on the challenge!

Sophia has been asking for a necklace, but we couldn't decide on how to make one. After reading Carollyn's blog this morning, I decided to play with her pattern to make Sophia's necklace.

Sophia chose the buttons, and I tatted... and tatted... and tatted. It took me all morning and part of the afternoon. I didn't mind, because Sophia was thrilled with it!

Kara is a little less patient, so I chose to crochet her necklace. It was finished in half an hour. Unfortunately, Kara broke her necklace taking it off, so I had to start over.

I chose to knot each button in place on a thin ribbon. It worked well, but Kara had lost interest in it by the time I was finished. That's the way it goes with little ones!

  1. I haven’t seen Carollyn’s necklace yet, but I love yours. Hmm. I have buttons and know some little girls who would love necklaces. Enjoy the last few days with the family.

    1. Carollyn did an adorable edging with baby buttons. I used her idea to make the necklace. I should have used better thread, but Sophia was happy!

    1. I think it's funny that I don't see some of the possibilities for imagination until little ones are around. I guess that's the way it was when I visited my grandparents as well. We have had a wonderful time!

  4. Not tried pin looming, looks interesting and your little mats are lovely, I wait to see what the challenge is going to be.
Your necklaces look lovely on them, today the world moves fast and these kids today go with it at speed of light, she might come back to your necklace when she sees the other grand daughter wearing hers.
I think you will be in need of a rest when they go home,

  5. This post is quite extraordinary. I was wondering how you thought of the adorable necklace, then saw the reference to Carollyn. I hadn't seen her post and was amazed at her button edging - very clever to decorate the bag (perhaps you could put a button edge around your woven mats!) I also have admired those cute bunny shuttles that she makes! Then you took the button idea and created a marvelous necklace with different shaped buttons! Very clever and a lot of tatting! The smile on Sophia's face is precious!

So nice that you will be able to meet Carollyn next weekend! And it's quite appropriate that you will be a teacher at the first Tatting Corner Tat Days, showing your Ice Drops technique!
