Where did I go wrong?

About a half hour ago I sat down to start the last pattern repeats for rounds 10 and 11. The space looked a little too big, so I counted... too many rings! It took a while for me to find the mistakes all the way back in round 7... three of them to be exact, right where you see the little blue bows.

I'm feeling a bit discouraged right now, and I'm kind of wishing I hadn't figured out how much time I spent on the pattern repeats. That's one heck of a lot of tatting to snip off, but it has to be done. I'm guessing I won't finish this doily before school starts as I had hoped.

Should I take a break from this doily, or should I fix my mistakes while they're fresh in my mind? I think I know the answer to that one!

  1. Oh, no! It's so much work to snip. This is where I sometimes give up, but it would be a shame to avoid fixing and proceeding while you know exactly what to do!

  2. Can you save the nine medallions you've just added and join them when re-making the previous row? This is such a beautiful piece of art.

  3. Oh no!!! Well, I for one, had the same kind of disasters happen with that piece! Don’t despair, just keep on keeping on and you will be rewarded at the end with a gorgeous tatted masterpiece. Seems to be a process, this one, with lots of roadblocks! To quote dear Margaret, “Keep your pecker up,” and keep tatting! Hugs...

  4. Sorry to hear that you have to get out the scissors. I too hope that you can keep the row 10 & 11 medallions and simply join them when you are doing row 9.

  5. No no no, oh no, And to quote Fox that used my saying "keep your pecker up". Yes I did tell her the same the other day, I don't think I could unpick all that tatting, possibly just cut off the last row and leave the mat as it is, I would be in tears to cut all of that off, I think Ladytats idea sounds very good, might save some time and thread.

  6. Ah, such a shame but I know what I'd do. Cuss loudly, cut back, shrug the shoulders and re-do. OR you could cut off to the row that gives you a lovely mat anyway and then start a brand new one and see if you can re-use those last motifs. It's reminded me to keep checking and counting my progress.

  7. Oh dear me, I am sorry. It is discouraging. If it was me, I'd probably leave if for a while to regain oomph. I do hope you can salvage the medallions, that would help.

  8. Oh no, that's so much work! I've taken a long hiatus but will have to double check mine when I get back to it. Hope it doesn't discourage you from finishing the project, you are making really good progress.

  9. Oh no, such a loss. Lets hope you have enough thread and stamina to continue.

  10. It's the journey, not the destination. And it's thread. The doily is beautiful. The doily will be really beautiful when finished.

  11. I agree with all the other clever sayings. But, my heart aches for you. I have been there, not with that doily, but with other projects.
