For those of you who don't follow baseball, the Chicago Cubs won the World Series for the first time since 1908!
The Cleveland Indians won game 1 easily. Game 2 was won by the Cubs, followed by losses to the Indians in games 3 and 4. I didn't get to see games 3 or 4 because of the middle school production of Into the Woods. I did record them to watch later, but since I didn't want to see them lose, I deleted those two games from our DVR. Game 5 gave Cubs' fans hope that they could go all the way. Games 6 and 7 were the most exciting for me. Since it's a best of 7 series, it seemed that the Indians had a clear advantage, but the Cubbies came through!
I'm still trying to tweak my idea for a Cubs Spinning Wheel. I liked Eliz's idea of creating the center with split rings, and I did try. I just couldn't get the split ring to work with the picot on the second side. I decided to try switching colors just in the center. It doesn't look horrible, but the center does feel a bit loose, and I can't seem to get the rings a consistent size. I put it down for a bit last night (it's kind of hard to tat and cheer on your team at the same time), and I had an amazing thought... I don't need to have a picot on the inside!
I'm going to finish this one, because I have a friend who told me how much she admired the blue Spinning Wheel I posted with a red C sitting on top of it. She only sees my Facebook posts, so I know that this will be a surprise for her.
When I finish this one, I am going to try the split rings again. Just like the Cubs, I'm not ready to give up!
I forgot to post a picture of my October tatting. I'd say October was a fairly productive month!
My fascination with the Ice Drops continues.
I don't know if you can tell, but these really are two different shades of blue. The top one looks like Cubby blue when you see them all together in a dish. The bottom one is a pale blue, very watery looking.
I've made pretty good progress on my Poppy Red Spinning Wheel. I was subbing in the 5th grade today, and some of my favorite tatters asked me if I had any tatting with me. One of the girls even pulled out her tatting to show me her progress. It's nice to know that some of the kids are still interested in tatting!

You sure have been busy!!! Everything looks wonderful!!! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you saw my other comment! Just wanted to jump into this post to again CONGRATULATE THE CUBS! Many of us here in Pittsburgh were rooting for them! What a nail-biter finish to the Series! I didn't watch, but was delighted to hear the result! I understand a t-shirt company near here had prematurely printed Indians Champion t-shirts, and were up all night trying to get the 'right' ones out as quickly as possible! I do give a nod to the Indians for a fine effort! Just getting to the Series is a triumph, and I'm sure this is difficult for them. The Pirates have been down that path, too!
ReplyDeleteYou still managed to put this post together after a sleepless night and subbing today!
Great photo of your amazing October accomplishments. Really like those Snowdrops!
I've been wondering about your 'former' tatting students. So great to hear they are still interested in tatting!
I understand your struggle and was and have tried things to make certain shapes and sometimes you got to sleep on it and keep trying, I think your last thought will work and so happy they kids remember and had tatting with them, they don't know how happy that makes us all in the tatting community :)
ReplyDeleteHubby and I watched and cheered for your Cubs and it is so very exciting that they finally won. Love all your October tattings. Snowdrops with pearls are lovely.
ReplyDeleteMore than a century - that's a long time to go between wins!! No wonder you're excited. Interesting experiments, you're making progress in putting your idea into practice. Fantastic that there are still some of the children tatting, hooray.
ReplyDeleteDiane, CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! Harry Caray is rolling over in the grave! I lived in Chicago for several years and always liked the Cubs. Glad they did it.
ReplyDeleteThe spinning wheel doily is giving me a fit. I keep losing track of which chain I am making, the one with one picot or the one with 2. Now I have to snip out a bit and fix it. I will finish it though. It does not look like 9 arms will be enough for mine, though it should.
Your Cubs doily will be wonderful. Send a photo of it to the clubhouse in Chicago. They may make you the official tatter of the Chicago Cubs!
C is for Congratulations, too :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's fun figuring out the hows when one has something in mind - the process & journey are always so much more enjoyable ! Looking forward to your latest idea :-)
It was shown on UK tv about the Cubs winning and I thought of you. I like how the Cubs mat is working up, I think it will work well.
ReplyDeleteYour October tatting was productive plus not to be forgotten how much else you did.
Your red spinning wheel is looking beatiful
Congrats to Cubs! Great 7th game, so exciting!
ReplyDeleteLove your Spinning Wheel doilies. Finally got athe book with the pattern and plan to make one (or more?). Have you posted any tips/hints for making this pattern? Looks like you only use one shuttle. Any idea how much thread it needs? This will be only my 2nd doily, I think I am hooking on tatting. Many thanks for sharing your amazing tatting with us.
Susan
Susan, I hope you love the Spinning Wheel pattern as much as I do! I use two shuttles with about 20 yards wound on each shuttle, continuous thread method. I do this so that I don't have to do the shoelace trick at the inside and outside edge. It also makes it much more convenient to carry with me. The last spoke can be a little tricky, so I did post my method of completing the doily here: https://lacelovinlibrarian.blogspot.com/2013/07/spinning-wheel-finished.html
DeletePlease let me know if I can help in any way!
Many thanks for these tips! I had hoped to start on it sooner, but life got in the way. I am finished up my 2nd practice doily, so will start on the Spinning Wheel soon! Thanks again.
