S-l-o-w day

The heat started kicking in about 10 a.m. yesterday, and once it's hot, I'm pretty much done! Right now the air is refreshing, but as soon as the air conditioner kicks in, the windows will be closed and I will become a slug. I don't think I would survive in the deep south or in the desert states. Yes, I am a wimp!

Once I adjust to the heat, I will accomplish more. In the meantime, I'm just enjoying life!

I only tatted one Ice Drop yesterday, but I have a good excuse. Grandchildren Eva and Aidan arrived yesterday for a week long visit. Aidan's 13th birthday was Saturday, and Eva's 15th birthday is tomorrow. Both of their parents had heavy work schedules this week, so I get the benefit of their company!

If Lily and Ella could come down from Minnesota, my house would be overflowing... and I would be ecstatic! However, they are both into sports and are on softball teams. In order for me to spend time with them, I need to head north!

This may end up being my busiest summer so far! 😁

Updates

I started the day off yesterday by installing updates on my computer. What a long process! I started around 5 a.m. when I got up, and the updates were not finished installing until almost 11. Granted, we don't have the fastest Internet access, and there were multiple users (Dave on his iPad, the kids streaming a movie while breakfast was being made, me installing updates). Still, that seemed like an awfully long time.

I did try posting yesterday morning, but since everything was so slow, I decided to put it off until later, and later just never came!

Sophia spent quite a bit of time "tatting" yesterday. She chose a dark pink shuttle and purple thread for her second project aka winding thread on the shuttle.

Every girl needs a project bag, so Sophia chose from my stash of Origami pouches. She told me she's making an Ice Drop. That's my girl! Think positively!

I finished another Sophia-approved Ice Drop before breakfast. I've noticed that some of the opaque glass gems are losing some of their paint from knocking against each other. I don't mind. I think it adds a little character!

Sophia cracks me up when she tells me she's going to just sit over here and do some tatting! I think she's toted her tatting to every chair in the house!

Janko is our little banana king! He eats several bananas every day, and he will only eat them if they're partially peeled. He does not like to share!

Kara gets all excited when Papa gets his iPad out!

I finished another Sophia-approved Ice Drop while the kids were napping. Then we all packed up and headed over to my sister-in-law's house for a cookout. Since we haven't had much rain in the past two weeks, there were not mosquitoes and the weather was perfect for sitting outside and enjoying each other's company!

Reunited

Daughter Joanne and the kiddos came back from their visit to Auntie Carol's yesterday morning. As expected, Sophia spied the new set of Ice Drops as soon as she walked into the living room!

The surprise was, she allowed the babies to help her decorate the tree!

While they were napping, I finished weaving my red and white Baltic band from The Weaver's Inkle Pattern Directory by Anne Dixon. I already have a pattern and colors in mind for my next band. I just need to find time to warp my loom!

I also managed to finish another Ice Drop. Sophia said, "Grandma you forgot to let me choose the ribbon, but it's okay because it's blue." I will definitely wait for her to choose the ribbon for the next Ice Drop!

After bath time, Sophia informed me that she is now big enough to learn tatting. She is four, after all! She chose a blue shuttle and turquoise thread and started winding her shuttle. After about 12" were wound, she asked if she was done. Hahaha! She filled the shuttle about halfway and told me she would tat some more tomorrow. She went to bed a very happy little girl!

Time to catch up

I don't think I've every gone so long without blogging! The past week has been extremely busy.

Saturday, Joanne started to come down with the bug the kids had last week. On Sunday I fought off a sinus headache. Monday, Joanne and I were both feeling better, so we went shopping for a few things to update my summer wardrobe.

Tuesday, Dave and I drove to Minnesota to attend our granddaughter Lily's 6th grade recognition. Today, Wednesday, we drove home. Whew! Needless to say, I didn't find time to post anything.

I'm still tatting with Rainbow Splash, mainly because Sophia loves the color. 😍

I've been working on another band. This one is a Baltic band from The Weaver's Inkle Pattern Directory by Anne Dixon. I love the red and white!

These are the only two things I managed to work on over the weekend.

Lily's 6th grade recognition was very nice! The 6th grade band and orchestra performed; the 6th grade choir sang; several of the 6th graders recapped the highlights of their school year. Cake and punch were served after the program, and there was a display in the small gym of some of their projects. It was all very impressive!

Unfortunately, we hit morning rush hour traffic on the way up, which meant that our drive took much longer than usual... 10 hours!

Lucky us, we hit evening rush hour traffic on the way back, giving us another 10 hour trip.

I don't think this has ever happened to us before!

The up side to these long drives, was that I had plenty of time to tat Ice Drops!

When we returned home this evening, I added the ribbons.

Joanne and the kids are visiting Auntie Carol and will be home tomorrow.

I can hardly wait to show Sophia all the new Rainbow Splash Ice Drops that she can add to the tree!

Command performance

Granddaughter Sophia informed me that she needed more Ice Drops to hang on the tree.

So, I tatted!

The babies took long naps today, so I had plenty of time.

Of course, all the gem and ribbon colors are Sophia approved!

Rise and shine!

I don't know where yesterday went, but I was up bright and early. I can hear cheerful little voices upstairs, so everyone must be feeling better!

Sophia spent time decorating my Ice Drop tree. She has informed me that I need to make more!

With all the snuggles and playing outside, it's been easier to weave a few rows here and there than it has been to pick up my tatting. I love the way this purple and blue band turned out!

As much as I love the purple and blue, this blue and green band just might be my favorite so far!

Joanne and I cleared out my kitchen bookshelves yesterday. I'm really not much of a cook, but I do enjoy reading cookbooks! As we were sorting, I found multiple copies of some... oops!

We've been trying to do a little bit each day, and although I don't have one single room organized to my liking, I do feel we've made progress.

Time to go... here come the little ones!

Tummy troubles

The little ones weren't feeling well today... tummy troubles. There was a lot of snuggle time, and all seemed to be doing much better by dinner time. Everyone went to bed early, leaving me time for just a bit of tatting...

Sophia chose the blue glass gem and pin ribbon. I think she may be going home with this one!
