I know, I know... I'm no Carole King! Dave and I were awakened by the earthquake that hit southern Illinois this morning. The bed was moving back and forth enough that Dave got out of bed immediately. I, of course, remained tucked under my cozy comforter! The two of us only remember feeling an earthquake one other time, when our daughter Carol was about one... that would have been the summer of 1982. Dave was eating a bowl of soup, and we all watched the soup slosh around. From listening to the news this morning, there have been others that we never noticed.
An earthquake in Illinois is nothing compared to the ones we hear about in California, but it was noticeable! I'm sure Gina and Mark felt it much more than we did... I'll be checking out their blogs!
Glad to hear that it was nothing major. I didn't notice any tremors up here in Wisconsin - of course, even if we did have I'd have slept right through it!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you didn't have any damage! I'm kind of a seimic junkie and would love to feel a good earthquake! Not the kind that does a lot of damage, just a little one like you had! LOL
ReplyDeleteYep, I felt it! LOL! And it just happened that the guy from Emergency Planning gave a presentation at our staff meeting this morning and said we feel the quakes of this magnitude much more than the same size quake in California but he didn't know the geo-engineering why. It was 5.4 and this is the 3rd & strongest I've felt but we've had more.

I'm so glad you and your family are okay. Gina, I'm glad you're okay, too.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you just had a pretty good aftershock too!
ReplyDeleteI hope you post again later, if you have time, to let us all know you're okay.
ReplyDeleteWe're doing fine. I was at a reading conference today and never noticed an aftershock. Of course, we're quite a bit north of the epicenter, and I think it's much easier to notice when you're half asleep and feel the bed moving!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that you didn't have any damage. You too Gina. I thought about you when I saw it on the news.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you are okay Diane.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have earthquakes here. The major fault line runs through our neigbouring country, Indonesia. Sometimes there are slight tremors if a major quake happened there like the big 9.9 that happened a few years ago and caused the tsunami.
Great news that it was not a bad one doing a lot of damage and that everyone is OK. I have never experienced one so I don't know what it is like, but I think I would be really scared if the ground suddenly moved, lol.
ReplyDeleteI was in CA in 1999 and felt a earthquake, not anything we Sweds are use too. I'm glad you are alright! Not an experience that is pleasant in any way, shape or form! I would say that I would have slept through 'our' earthquake as well but sweet hubby woke me up!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I love earthquakes! I was in a 7.5 in Seattle...it was awesome!
