My eight-year-old granddaughter, Eva, has been wanting to learn to sew on a sewing machine. Today seemed ideal... hot, humid, yucky outside, but nice and cool inside! We raided Grandma's stash (yes, believe it or not, I have a fabric stash), and started with a practice piece. Eva caught on very quickly, so we decided to make an apron!
The bottom half went very smoothly...
as did the rest.
Straps are a little harder, so I finished those for Eva.
And here is my new little seamstress showing off her new apron!
Aren't you the BEST GRANDMA in the entire world?!! What you did for Eva today...will remain with her forever. I'm so glad you took many pictures.
ReplyDeleteI hope she grows up to be as talented as you!
Awesome job Eva!!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved sewing as a kid and I would still do more, but my old machine broke and a new one is off in the future somewhere.
I never made an apron, but I did all the mending for our family cuz' my mother who couldn't sew a straight line or much of anything. Have fun! :)
Where do I sign up for a class? LOL
ReplyDeleteGood idea for a hot day outside!!!
How lucky Eva is to have you for a Grammy! Her apron turned out lovely...next she'll be learning to tat! She a really Cutie, Diane! Have fun making more summertime memories with her!
ReplyDeletexo Paulette ;)
Well, I am not at all surprised you had the perfect piece of fabric for her!
ReplyDeleteShe did a great job! Way to go Grandma and Eva!
Fox : )
What a terrific job your granddaughter has done!
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Eva! You'll have your own Etsy shop before you know it :)
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! A terrific Grandma and a super fast learner grand-daughter! That apron is WAY cute!
ReplyDeleteI was 10 when my Gran taught me to crochet. I still remember her teaching me and I still crochet- almost 50 years later. She gave me a treasure- as you did today for youe DGD.
I feel so inadequate. Fortunately MY daughters had a Grandma like you; and, they all learned to sew. I learned to baste, and make a straight stitch on a machine and that is about it….sigh
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful memory for Eva. Bekah and I have lots of different sorts of memories; but, no sewing. Her Mom taught her though…and that is great.
I'm glad to that you documented the day with photos..be sure to have copies in a safe place.
hugs, bj
Hi Diana...how lovely! My daughter still has the nightie she made at around the same age. Eva looks as though she was having a ball!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, she will definitely have this memory forever. My grandmother thought me sawing when I was 8 too, on her very old non-electric sawing machine. I will never forget it, best memory ever!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Eva!!!
SO ADORABLE! What a great memory this will be for both of you!
ReplyDeleteOne of the best joys of being a grandma...grandchildren and teaching them your talents. Eva you did a wonderful job on your beautiful apron. Keep sewing...
ReplyDeleteYou know she'll remember that forever!
