My friend Robyn's father, Walter, passed away this week. This cross is for her.
The pattern was supposed to be "Maria" from Tatted Bookmarks - cross-shaped by Lene Bjorn. However, I realized I had made a mistake shortly after starting. Rather than un-tat, I adapted the pattern. I missed some chains, so I had to add some rings. It worked, but I prefer the original pattern. I think Robyn will like it.

...beautiful and a lovely sediment for Robyn.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your friend will love it. It's quite pretty, I like your adaptions too.
ReplyDeleteI've seen many crosses with the two "tassel" ends but have never been able to figure out what they're for. Is it just lovely or is there also a purpose?
I think the two tassel ends are just a design element. I like having a tassel on a bookmark, and this type of tassel is very easy to do.
ReplyDeleteVery clever adaptations! You've turned that old saw "It's not a mistake, it's a design variation" into a statement that is actually true, because you have made your variations work in a way that maintains the balance, proportion, and overall feel of the piece. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice adaptation, Diane, and a thoughtful gift for your friend.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely and such a wonderful way to honor your friend in her time of sorrow. Your version is exquisite. I was wondering why the cross had antennae however you have explained that they are tassels. May you have a relaxing weekend...
ReplyDeleteNice work, Diane; good adaptation!

It is a lovely cross and a thoughtful gift. Love the thread, too. You did a great job of turning a mistake into a design change. Congratulations on your creativity.
ReplyDeleteYour version is equally as lovely as the original, and the thread is beautiful. I am so amazed at our choices of threads today, and I enjoy seeing the items everyone makes with them. You certainly give us lots of ideas with the many things you make!
