Why?
My new hand crank sewing machine arrived today, and I've been reading and watching videos about how to clean, oil, and use it. It's in beautiful condition. I've been looking for one for several years, and when I found this one on eBay last weekend it was love at first sight!
I do need to do a little cleaning and oiling, but I am thrilled to finally have my very own hand crank machine!

I learned sewing on my Mom's Singer hand crank machine ! Fond memories, though she was very possessive about who used her machine & how. She did beautiful machine embroidery on it - mesmerizing just to watch !
ReplyDeleteGearing up to see your sewing projects now :-)
I'm pretty sure I'll be very possessive with this baby! However, my granddaughters may be able to talk me into giving it a whirl. :-)
DeleteWhat a fabulous machine!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I LOVE it!
DeleteCongrats! In this, I cannot be enabled! I dislike sewing intensely!!! But, good for YOU! : ))
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's good to know I can't enable you to do just anything! ;-)
DeleteIt's been well looked after! I have one that belonged to my grandmother; my father converted it to use an electric motor, but the hand wheel is still here, safely stowed. One of these days I intend to have it restored, and remove the motor!
ReplyDeleteI had purchased a similar machine a few years ago. It was not in nearly as nice condition as this machine, and it had a motor. At the time, I didn't realize I could remove the motor and add a hand crank, so I gave it to a friend who absolutely loved it. I guess there's a machine for everyone!
DeleteHow neat! I saw Frivole mentioned using a hand crank sewing machine a few weeks ago, and I had no idea what it was. I went ahead and watched a few videos on YouTube and think it's very interesting! If I could sew I would be tempted to use a pattern that was from the same time period as this lovely machine.
ReplyDeleteI remember her post, and I was sure that I would never find one that called to me. I sure am glad I searched eBay last weekend!
DeleteCongratulations! You know that now I want one too...
ReplyDeleteHaha! Save your pennies and keep looking. I'm pretty sure there's one out there with your name on it!
DeleteBeautiful. I think it takes a coordinated person to be able to crank that and move the material at the same time. :-)
ReplyDeleteI guess I'll soon find out how coordinated I am!
DeleteThat brings back memories' I learnt to sew on one like that, mum was always moaning I went too fast, too fast if I went any slower I would have still being sewing the seams

Es maravillosa, yo tengo una de pedal de principios de los 70. Me encanta.Besos.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find. I admire people who can sew. I have mastered buttons and hems but beyond that it is outside of my abilities, hence I have good friends who sew.
ReplyDeleteI took sewing in school in 7th and 8th grade. My mom kept us going with sewing during school holidays. My sisters and I always sewed on skirt, jumper, or dress when we were on school holiday.
DeleteDiane, I wonder if you've seen Meagan's tatted spool pin doilies to lay under the thread spool for such machines : http://www.threadsoflifecreations.com/tat-along-buttons-beads/
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link! I've seen crocheted ones, but I hadn't seen tatted ones before.
DeleteI have one like that. My mother bought it with her very first pay cheque! It had a motor for a while, but now just has the handle. Great when the power goes off or for very thick fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI always get the urge to sew when the power's out. Now I can!
