Today I'm feeling very much like an old school person. I was subbing at the middle school this afternoon, and I realized how far removed I am from keeping up with educational trends in such a short time. I'm not complaining, merely observing. Why does everything change so quickly?
I'm also starting to feel like blogging is very much old school. Again, I'm not complaining. It's just an observation. Back when I started blogging (9 1/2 years ago), it was the ultimate way to keep in touch with tatters. Now the best way to meet up with tatters online seems to be Facebook. Case in point... I"m amazed at the following my little Ice Drops have received through the groups I belong to on Facebook! It's been great fun to see others pick up on how much fun it is to tat up these little ornaments.
Today I worked on two more tiddlywinks. The Swarovski crystals add a little weight, which is nice.
My little silver tree is getting full!
Imagine my surprise when a box full of shuttles arrived from Handy Hands today! I guess that's what happens when one spends too much time window shopping on the Internet on the weekend. ;-)

Look at that fabulous tree! It should be on public display somewhere! And more shuttles! I see that they are 'Moonlits', with the steel hook on the end. Amazing what Handy Hands provides!
ReplyDeletePlease don't stop blogging! Yes, Facebook is a good way to get some 'exposure', but it's not the best place for the detail we tatters look for. Also it's so much easier to navigate through blogs, especially Blogger. Your blog alone is a treasure trove of your work, and I still refer to Gina's blog where there is a ton of information easily found via the search bar or the archive list. I find it very difficult to navigate around in Facebook.
I'm embarrassed that I am not keeping up my own blog, mostly because I'm not doing much tatting (not that I don't want to); but I'm hoping to remedy that soon! I'm still 'obsessed' with tatting and I relax every day by reading all the blogs and am amazed at those of you who write almost daily!
Thank you, Kathy! I have no intention of giving up blogging. I really blog to keep a record of what I do for myself. I love the interaction with tatters, but that is really just the icing on the cake!
DeleteI've seen your ice drops on my facebook page even though I don't belong to any tatting groups on there. I agree with Kathy, don't stop bloggig. Of course there's room for several kinds of communication, though you run into the problem that you're spending more time on line than creating!
ReplyDeleteI will not stop blogging, Jane! I realize (because of my own habits) that time constraints don't always allow for interaction. Blogging is my way of keeping records, and when I look back at what I've accomplished, I'm pretty amazed!
DeleteEt tu, ...?!
ReplyDeleteDoes seem like the gang has all shifted to Facebook (and WhatsApp & instagram). To be or not to be .... part of that social platform is the question. Time is definitely a constraint. And since I have no idea how it functions, I cannot make an informed argument.
But what I totally dislike is that they all become 'closed groups' (like Craftree) where you need to 'belong'. It is no longer open to any and everybody irrespective of language too. Or perhaps in time through web archive either. It all belongs to the 'owner' of that platform.
Everybody got to see your Ice Drops. But only the members there get to see their working/creations from your original. And, nobody from the group(s) thinks to leave a 'thank you' on your blog ! Although this is true for the majority ;-P
Then again, one must move with the times. So who can really say what is right/wrong, good/bad, ....
No! No! I will not desert Blogger! I've been more active on Facebook because if the Ice Drops, but I'm sure that will die down soon when some other tatting fad takes over. I do wish everyone could see the fun other tatters have had with my idea. I like to think that maybe I'm inspiring someone else as others have inspired me!
DeleteI've thought about giving up on my blog too. Particularly after a few nasty comments. Instead I've given up monitoring Facebook instead and it's with great relief that I've now got my life back. I pop in to add a link to the blog and leave darn quickly. IF anybody wants me they only have to mention my name and I can go there. Gave up on Craftree as I can't find my way round it!
ReplyDeleteFacebook can be so negative! I'm more likely to give up Facebook than my blog!
DeleteDon't five up FB. I read your blog but I do FB everyday.
ReplyDeleteLove your tree is wonderful and completely snow covered, I miss the post before and love the pink it is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat Ice Drops again!! :)
ReplyDeleteThere is someone on facebook that I follow and she has been posting links to your Ice Drops all week. :)
More great shuttles!! Hmmm....I wonder how long before they are "tied" up in projects or just put into their proper place in your collection! :)
Please don't stop blogging, I have seen your ice drops on Facebook too, I see some tatting on Facebook but I prefer reading about tatting on the blogs.
ReplyDeleteMore shuttles his many is that now
Time and technology does change way too fast and I am certainly left behind...I don't even have a Smart phone. Blogging is still my favorite yet so many are switching to faster (less personable) social medias. I am grateful you still blog. XO
