Did you know that you can apply for a scholarship to attend Palmetto Tat Days? Next year, the guild will be raffling of a quilt, and we were challenged to take quilt squares and strips with us to decorate with tatting.
For each of the three fabric categories, there were tatting patterns designed by Jane Eborall to get us started. I'm not a fan of skulls, but I had decided to take one of each square, and this happened to be one of the categories.
I am fascinated by beer steins! I don't have any, and I often wonder if they're really practical with those lids.
I think this Japanese lady would appeal to my mom. She loves oriental designs!

I was really drawn to this dragon fly fabric. Now it's time to get tatting!
I took 3 squares, Diane. I am thinking of putting duchesses on one. You know, Jane's TIAS this year. Well, that's what I call them. I am trying to figure out how to make tatting show on a busy background, though. For instance, on those dragonflies, would you even see the tatting?
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about what to do also, Tim. I was thinking of tatting Mary Konior's Leaf Braid to go down the center of the dragonfly strip. For the Japanese print, I thought of trying to tat a Chinese lantern edging. For the beer steins, I think I'll try Jane's pattern and only put the steins on the red and blue. For the skull square, I was thinking of tatting turquoise skulls for the red section and red for the turquoise section. Of course I may change my mind once I get started!
DeleteI think Tim has a point. I guess you'd have to use light coloured tatting to show up against the pretty fabrics. We could use one of those steins at the moment - there are midges about that love beer and a lid would keep them out! Good luck for your challenge, I look forward to seeing what you decide to tat.
ReplyDeleteThis may turn out to be more challenging than I originally thought, Jane!
DeleteVery inspirational fabric works to start the tatting juices going :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your tatting decorated squares!! :)
ReplyDeleteCant wait to see the tatting to go with these. Hugs, LJ
