There's a first time for everything...

...and this is not something I wanted to happen. When I was snipping my final thread, I snipped a picot! I was already dissatisfied with my work on this motif, because I missed the last join. I knew I would make it over again, but to snip a picot! I can't believe I did that!

This motif is "Round Paperweight Motif" from Projects in Tatting by Sheila York, and the pattern is on page 54. I can't remember where I found this book, but I've had it for a while. If you can find a copy (it's from 1985), it's well worth having. There are many projects that I would love to make. The thread is size 20 Lizbeth #691, Mocha Brown Med.

  1. Well, if it will make you feel any better- I cannot find where you snipped the picot.

It's a lovely piece- and I bet if you didn't tell anyone, only the super-tatters would ever know or notice.

  5. Welcome to the club! I've done it more than I care to admit. I love this shade of brown and bought it even though I rarely use brown.

  10. A blind man on a galloping horse would never see it. :) People look at me all weird when I say that...thanks, Mom!

Can't wait to see you this afternoon!

  11. Oh, you know what...this would be perfect for being stitch onto something and you could stitch beads on it and a bead over the snipped picot would solve the problem....that is if you're into stitching your tatting onto stuff. Just a thought. It's a lovely motif, really.

  12. Sorry about that. But I've done it too, so I understand how you feel. However it is beautiful work.

  13. Aw
I know just how you feel.
And it's not like tatting is done rapidly, well not for me anyway.
At Hector and Palmetto tat days we were gifted with a little gadget that Barbara Hevener invented, that prevents just such a thing from happening. It is a large heart shaped sequin with a center hole just large enough to put the ending thread through. (I'm sure a 3x5 card would work as well.) You pull the thread up through the hole, keep a little tension on the thread, place your scissors as close to the sequin/card as possible, press down and snip. Voila

  15. Diane - Have to let you know; because of this motif and your terrific idea, I now have the book - yes, within the time you posted it and yesterday - that has just arrived from England! Love it!

Now I am about to order the coasters, which I sussed out from Herschners Canada. I am going to make a set of coasters for both kids and their families. Perfect gift idea . Thank you! Fox : )

ps Congrats on your super winnings!
