Starting the new year off right

I spent about an hour working on reorganizing my sewing room yesterday... what a mess! At the rate I'm going, I won't be finished until next January. I think I spend too much time reminiscing as I go through my stuff. Anyway, I was appalled at the number of works-in-progress that I have! (I think works-in-progress sounds more positive than UFOs.) So, last night I sat down and finished a WIP that's been sitting by my chair for a couple of weeks.

This is "Pretty Practical Tatted Bookmark" by Linda S Davies. I started this bookmark so that I could help answer a question at InTatters. I made a minor adjustment to suit my needs... I only tatted 15 rings on each side instead of 20. This is a very simple pattern, easy to follow, quick to tat. I used one of my decoupaged Sew Mate shuttles. If you're thinking of trying decoupage, I highly recommend using fabric... it doesn't wrinkle the way paper does, and the little bit of texture helps me hold on to my shuttle. Yes, I have been known to send my shuttles flying across the room! I've lost the tag to the thread. It's Lizbeth size 40, and I think it might be color #116. Luckily, my husband is 100% Italian, so I can tat with these colors year 'round and use the excuse that I'm thinking of his Italian heritage! ; )

  3. That is precisely why all the photo albums I took over the years (23 in all - big ones) reside with the kids. I CANNOT bear to look through them. I sit on the floor blubbering for hours as I pour over old photos... not good! So, I don't!

  4. I have an Italian friend who said the exact same thing when he saw that thread.

Funny, I always think of librarians as extremely organized people. I guess if you have to spend the entire day keeping all the books shelved in their proper places, I can see why you wouldn't want to do that when you get home. Maybe you can invent the Diane Decimal System for keeping threads and beads organized by size and color!

  5. I’m thinking about what daughters will find when I leave. All these roly poly bags with HDT, 2 bins of commercial threads, 4 Binders of patterns, 3 dvds from Palmetto, Comeplete Linda Davies, Sharon Briggs collections; numerous books ~ some valuable; and, a partridge (no no). . .
I’m pretty set on placing the best loved stuff with various tatting friends who will then have the job of organizing. tee hee

  6. I prefer Phd's (projects half done) VBG...My craft room is about to get a built in floor to wall cupboard, so the cleaning is done...just the moving while LOML gets organised with the timber! I always tell my girls if the room was tidy, I would not have the time to sort out their problems, patterns etc...so they live with it! Looking forward to continued frindship beyond 2011. cheers...

  7. Organizing is always the time I go down memory lane. I am so sentimental I can hardly get anything completed. Love your shuttle display and how very thoughtful of your man to build it for you. Happy week to you...

  8. Esta precioso tu marcador, y creo que todas tenemos trabajos empezados, pues priorizamos otro bello patrón y se van rezagando algunos. Al verlo pense en mi México, son los mismos colores que Italia. Felicidades

  10. You know Diane, you really don't need any excuses to work with this color of thread. Whether your husband is Italian or not, this thread color is wonderful whether it's for Christmas, Italy or wherever or whomever...I love these color combinations and I use them alot. The shuttle is so cute too...I'm going to try some decopage on the shuttles soon. Wish me luck!

  11. Happy New Year Diane! I was organizing for a long time today too. I feel like I just emerged from a month long Christmas twilight zone! Next year it's going to be different...and a bit less stressful, hopefully! I hope your holidays were wonderful. I'm in LOVE with the display case your hubby made for your beautiful shuttles. Boy is he ever a keeper! Love the picture of you with your friends. Wishing you lots of love, happiness and laughs in 2011!...You're so funny about the red, white and green! hee hee hee!
    xoxo Paulette :)
