I've been wanting to tat something from this Japanese book, so last night I started design #7. The center didn't seem right to me, but looking at the diagram over and over again, I was sure I had tatted it correctly. Then I started the second round. My first mistake was that I should have used two Celtic shuttles instead of using a Clover and the ball thread. There's no way for me to intertwine the chains!
I think I'll set this book aside until school is out. It's going to take my complete concentration!
At least you tried!! :)
ReplyDeleteI think you were suppose to flip the clover before attaching it (so the chain would twist) to the other clover. I will have to try it to make sure, do you know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteAh, man! It is aggravating to miscalculate like that! I guess you could wrap several yards of thread around cardboard or something - starting at the tatted piece - cut it off then wrap it onto another shuttle. Good luck with it whenever you pick it up again.
ReplyDeleteI have a Japanese book on its way to me in the post. Not sure if it's the same one, but I'm looking forward to getting it and trying things out. Sounds a little daunting!
ReplyDeleteI have made this doily, but it was an awkward method and slow going. Well worth persevering with, when you are in the mood! I bought the book when I was with Val Ho in Singapore
ReplyDeleteThe book is on my wish list, I look forward to seeing how it goes

Everything you have reported sounds foreign to me...a non-tatter who wants to learn at least the basics. I definitely won't start with this one. You will conquer it I believe!
ReplyDeleteI have this book in french. If you have some trouble with japanese text, I can help you :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the offer! After reading other people's comments about this doily, I think I'm going to wait until school is out to tackle it again. I will keep your offer in mind!
DeleteI did Doily 11 from this book - it's the extension of motif 7, and the first two rounds are identical. I can tell you that you do need two celtic shuttles - skinny ones. And that it ruffles dreadfully. But it is such a pretty doily, it's worth the trouble! If I tat it again, though, I would try some modifications. Here's my blog post about it: http://gracetats.blogspot.sg/2015/10/catchup-post-1-japanese-doily-by-sumi.html
