Celebrating

Dave and I celebrated our 36th anniversary today by upgrading our cell phones and router. Replacing Dave's phone was really a necessity. He uses it for work and it has been doing weird things for almost a year. Upgrading our router is our latest effort to improve our Internet access. I'll get it hooked up tomorrow, since we're both online tonight. My phone was working fine, but Dave wanted me to have a new one, and I was happy to oblige. Hopefully, all this new technology will keep us better connected!

I did spend a little time tatting today,

...as well as sewing. I decided to make a hanky pin cushion to go with the little fabric basket. I'm not at all happy with it. It's way too big... 6" square. I can't imagine anyone wanting a pin cushion that large, but I could be wrong. I had to use four times as much fill as I do with my 3" pin cushions, and the fill is the most expensive part. Now I know... no pin cushions out of a full hanky!

I spent most of the morning organizing my tatting shuttles. I did take pictures, but they're so dark, I think I'll wait and take better ones. I'm sure you're all aware that I have far more tatting shuttles than one person could possible need, but let me tell you, even I am overwhelmed by my collection!

How's the for a tease? ;-)

  1. Congratulations on your anniversary!!!! :)
May you have many more happy and blessed years!!! :)
You have gotten more tatting done than I have!!
I love that cute pin cushion and basket!! :) I am sure someone who does a lot of sewing could probably use it, or it looks like a cute pillow for a doll! :)

    1. A doll pillow sounds good, but I think I'll probably take it apart and reuse the fill. If I take it apart carefully, I'll be able to refill it with polyfil for my doll bed. I'll let you know what I decide!

  2. Congratulations on your anniversary! I hope the new technology helps you keep connected to the world. I guess cutting a hanky would defeat the object? A big pincushion could be useful for a big job? I look forward to seeing photos of your shuttle collection!

    1. The corners are the pretty parts, so maybe I'll trim the centers for the next try. There's definitely too much pin cushion there for my taste!

With your collection, it is little surprise that you shuttle (read cruise) along speedily through various projects ;-D

    1. If you could see the disastrous condition of my house, you'd see exactly why I get so much tatting done. Tatting is my way of avoiding household chores! ;-)

  5. Wow what nice gift and Congratulations too :)
Love the green and pincushion ideas with hankies, I seemed to get too many on my hankie collection too :) and I am sure you will need a special wide angle lens to capture all those shuttles :) but a great idea for a post people will droll at.

    1. Haha! Since I don't have a wide angle lens, I think I'll have to take multiple pictures!

  6. Congratulations! Couldn't happen to nicer people!

She who dies with the most shuttles (and thread) wins....

  7. Congratulations on your anniversary! You are a great team together!

I'm sure you would win the Guinness World Record for Tatting Shuttle Collections, if there were such a category! What amazes me is that you can so easily switch from post shuttles to bobbin shuttles to large shuttles and to small shuttles, with or without hooks! I can only use a bobbin shuttle with a hook, but a post shuttle comes in handy to 'avoid' finger tatting in some situations.

And it is always interesting to see how many shuttle types there are (you have posted some excellent comparisons), and who is making them! I really look forward to the pictures and the latest count!
