Yesterday

Yesterday was such a lovely day! Dave and I went on a wine tasting tour in southwest Michigan, something we haven't done for several years. The weather was perfect!

I didn't take any tatting in the car with me. It was what Dave called a "you and me" day, and it didn't seem appropriate to ignore him for tatting. I did start an Ice Drop before we left, and I finished it in the evening.

I knew I didn't have enough of Tie Dye Blue from Sherry Pence to tat a Doodle Ice Drop. I didn't even have enough to tat my basic pattern. So, I opted to tat the one pass method, which eliminates the chains that snug up to the glass gem. I prefer the look with the extra chains, but I didn't have any other options. I had less than a yard of thread left. Talk about cutting it close!

Taking it easy

Dave is on vacation this week, so we're taking it easy. We had some friends over for breakfast today, and then we just enjoyed the beautiful weather. Dave worked in the yard, while I enjoyed reading and tatting with the windows wide open.

I decided to stop hoarding my hand-dyed threads and start using them. The thread is Tie Dye Blue from Sherry Pence aka Lady Shuttle Maker. The shuttle is from Veronica of TattingShuttles on Etsy. This is a Doodle Ice Drop I'm going to keep!

Judith

I was looking for an oval motif for a present I'm working on, and I found "Judith" in Tatting Patterns by Lyn Morton.

I tatted both motifs out of size 20 HDT from Sherry Pence... Rainbow Sherbet and Tie Dye Blue. I tatted the Rainbow Sherbet first, but I was disappointed for two reasons: 1) I made my joins incorrectly, so the finished piece doesn't lie flat, and 2) it's too pale for the background it will be on. Sigh! I knew before I started that I was making the wrong color choice.

Luckily, this is a very simple piece to tat (as long as you join correctly), so I tatted the Tie Dye Blue while we watched the Bears/Vikings game this afternoon. I think the blue will be perfect for the setting... I'll post a picture when Dave has finished with his part of the project.

Tatted bookmark no. 3

I finished my third bookmark this morning on the way to Chicago. I don't get to see my husband much between Easter and Memorial Day, because he is very busy with spring plant sales. He's a tropical plant wholesaler. So, this morning when he asked me if I wanted to go with him on a delivery to Chicago and then go out for breakfast, I said yes! Since the scenery is so familiar to me, it was easy to decide to take my tatting along.

This little beauty was tatted in size 20 Tie Dye Blue from LadyShuttleMaker, using one of her beautiful ceramic shuttles. When I finish the fourth bookmark, I'll post a picture of all the bookmarks, the book, and the shuttles I used. I love having a variety of shuttles to choose from!
