Distractions

I've had the most wonderful distractions for almost five weeks now, but the fun is about to end. Joanne and kids will be heading home this weekend. I sure am going to miss having them around!

My sister and her grandchildren had so much fun visiting last week, they decided to come again this week. We had a day filled with wagon rides, lawn mowing, feeding chickens, playing in the treehouse, eating ice cream... everything kids love to do!

Needless to say, I was too tired to tat!

Some members of the Pin Loom Weaving Support Group on Facebook are planning a Tour de Fleece type challenge for pin loom weavers. I'm not sure of the details yet, but I think the plan is to weave one square a day for the month of July.

I haven't done any pin loom weaving since before Christmas, so I figured I ought to warm up a bit in case I decide to take on the challenge!

Sophia has been asking for a necklace, but we couldn't decide on how to make one. After reading Carollyn's blog this morning, I decided to play with her pattern to make Sophia's necklace.

Sophia chose the buttons, and I tatted... and tatted... and tatted. It took me all morning and part of the afternoon. I didn't mind, because Sophia was thrilled with it!

Kara is a little less patient, so I chose to crochet her necklace. It was finished in half an hour. Unfortunately, Kara broke her necklace taking it off, so I had to start over.

I chose to knot each button in place on a thin ribbon. It worked well, but Kara had lost interest in it by the time I was finished. That's the way it goes with little ones!

Brrr!

It was a cold and dreary day here. Rainy days just seem to set a chill in my bones that won't go away. I can hardly wait to go to bed and snuggle under my wool blanket!

I finished off a mini-ball of brown wool today, and started on some multi-colored yarn from Hobby Lobby. I'm amazed at the number of squares I'm getting from left-over yarns. I'm still trying to decide what to do with them, but for now, I'm just weaving away when the mood strikes!

I finished up my Sky Blue Dark Spinning Wheel while watching the World Series tonight. The game's been going on for three hours now, and they're only in the 7th inning. I guess I'll have time to wind my shuttle for another Spinning Wheel!

Costume day

Most of today was spent altering costumes. I would have been able to finish if I had purchased the correct ribbon for one of the dresses. I second guessed myself because of price, and I should have gone with my first choice. Since I didn't, I'll be heading back to Kankakee tomorrow to get what I need. The good news is, eight of the nine costumes are good to go!

Another mini-ball of leftover yarn found a new life today! I'm pretty sure this is wool sock yarn. Keeping my little pin looms close at hand is proving to be a good way to de-stash my mini-balls!

This is the beautiful jar Denise found at a garage sale. Yesterday it was filled with spools of sewing ahead. I should have taken a picture of it filled, but I forgot. Denise is the sock-knitting queen, and I think this beautiful jar would be a great place for her to store her mini-balls. Denise knits up her left-overs into hexipuffs. Wouldn't they look adorable in there?

I'm making progress with my newest Spinning Wheel. I do like this color, Ocean Teal Med.

Sub day

I subbed today and I will be subbing again tomorrow. It was so much fun. All I had to do was follow someone else's lesson plans, so much easier than developing my own. There are quite a few new kids at school this year, and it has been great meeting them. Of course the hugs I receive from students who know me well, make the day even better!

Our Internet has been spotty for a while, so Dave put in for a service call. It's funny, he gets more irritated by poor Internet service than I do. As a result of our spotty service, I wasn't able to post last night, and I had so much to share!

I wove some 2" squares for Mom. They're so quick and easy to make, and they take so little yarn. Scraps that I've held on to suddenly have a good use.

Our high school volleyball team has a Pink Night every year to raise money to help cancer patients from our community. Bella decided that she wanted make a pillow for the fund raiser. She chose this pink fabric from my stash for the front of the pillow.

She chose chocolate brown for the back. She's doing such a nice job with her pillows. She and her mom are going to make a pink and brown polar fleece blanket to go with the pillow. I'm sure there will be interested bidders!

Bella has also been experimenting with fabric scraps. This is her own design, and she has decided that she would like to teach her pattern to her sewing classmates.

Mom loves red, and I made these two pin cushions with her in mind. If Mom wants two, she gets two! That's just the kind of daughter I am. ;-)

So, the above was supposed to be yesterday's post. I guess this is a twofer day!

I was up at 4:30 this morning, so I had plenty of time for weaving and tatting before school. I've decided to weave a 4" square and then a 2" square... keep it equal, ya know! I now have 21 of each size woven. I have a feeling Mom may tell me to keep some of them. With the two of us weaving, she could wind up with more than she can use. You can have as many as you want, Mom!

I'm making pretty good progress with my Raspberry Pink Med Spinning Wheel. I'm still lovin' the size 80 thread!
