Another shuttle emptied!

This is a great little shuttle only motif. Even though I use a picot gauge, I still have a hard time getting the lengths of thread between the rings the same length. I guess I have a reason to keep on practicing!.

This is No. 1 Square Motif from The DMC Book of Charted Tatting Designs by Kirstine Nikolajsen & Inge Lise Nikolajsen. It measures almost 2" in Lizbeth #662 Turquoise Lt., size 20.

  1. Nice work, Diane! I can never get those darn threads to be even on those stringy one shuttle/rings only motifs either! LOL!

  2. I am always somewhat frustrated because I can't get all the picots the same, even with a picot gauge, in motifs like this. The bracelet I just tatted had a very long picot and a medium long picot to tat repeatedly. Although I strung the same beads on them, the length varied from one segment to the next. I did notice that the second one was a little more consistent than the first so maybe it's just a matter of being repetitive.

  5. Hi Diane! I get best results when I leave a space that looks shorter than I think I need. When I close the ring, the thread stretches a bit, and compensates for the short length.
It's like making a picot. You can always pull it bigger, but you can't make it smaller.
