2 hours 15 minutes

Yup... that's how far I was in to the doily when I noticed my mistake.

Do you see it there by the point of the shuttle? I made the first ring incorrectly. There's an extra picot and a chain 3 in the wrong place.

Rather than cutting it off, I decided to finish the round. The extra picot sticks out like a sore thumb, but I figure I can save this piece for a crazy quilt block and do something fancy to hide my mistake.

Luckily, I have plenty of time to catch up!

  1. I really doubt anyone would see that extra picot! I know you would obsess about it, though. I'm glad you will find a use for it.

  2. What about just doing the join to both picots.....? Tucking them in together would keep that 'sore thumb look' out of sight... So to speak. But at this point, and I suspect you are as persnickety as I, it isn't to far into it to just start over. Love the pattern! Ü

  3. What a shame when you started off so well, you are thinking about time and not relaxed about it, at least you can use it up, or which I don't think is in your nature forget about it and carry on. Whatever you decide if you do start again it won't take you so long as you have practiced the pattern.

  4. Oh dear. That's annoying! It might be interesting to see if it goes any faster if you start over again, though I wouldn't wish that on you.

  5. I do that and it looks great on a crazy patch quilt. I want to try a Victorian book cover too!

  6. I never would have noticed if you didn't point it out, Diane. I'm glad you'll find another use for that pretty piece though. xo :)

  7. Sometimes you can get rid of a picot by spreading the extra thread among a few close stitches. Good luck!

  8. I really don't think it would ever be noticed once the whole thing is done.

  9. You know, sometimes a mistake turns out for the best, as you can use this piece for another project at another time. I'm sure you will find a good use for it. Besides it's good practice for tatting and a lesson learned that we should pay closer attention). So all in all it does turn out for the best all the way around. Pretty pattern, too.

  11. Oh no! Although you may say that the extra picot sticks out like a sore thumb, I suspect that most non-tatters would not notice. On the bright side, you know how long it will take to make a replacement:)

  12. I have admitted this before and will again because I don't do it any more.... I would have cut it off!

  13. I love to watch a pattern grow....and as I have that book I am soo tempted to race you, and see how fast I can do the first two rounds! What do you say?

  14. Drat! I couldn't even see it with the shuttle pointing to it. I am glad you decided to keep it and use it somehow. I have missed so much while having company. I still love your angel! Blissful Tatting Dear...

  15. Not being familiar with this pattern, I would say you have given it your best shot. Since you have a deadline, do something different.

Me, I would put it away and do another pattern. Then when you feel like trying it again I would give it another try. (I don't give up or quite very easily, but I think sometimes leaving it alone and going back to it at another time seems to work for me.)

I'm sure any pattern you make for her will be very pretty and she will be very happy with it.
