Happy Father's Day!

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Father's Day. I know we did. There wasn't really a plan to do anything here, but by late morning it was obvious we were going to have a house full of company. I think I prefer unplanned parties. We had a great time!

Before breakfast, before we knew anyone was coming over, I started another Spinning Wheel glass mat (Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior). This time I'm using size 20 Pond, hand-dyed thread from Yarnplayer. I don't see any size 20 in Marilee's shop right now, but it is available in 30, 40, 50, and 80.

We have a little man-made pond in our front yard, one of Dave's pet projects, and I was inspired to use this thread because he is in the middle of laying down a new tarp and refilling the pond. It needs to be cleaned out every year, which involves pumping out all of the old water and cleaning out all the debris. Every few years he lays down a new tarp, and this is the year for replacement. Honestly, I'm not real fond of the pond. I'd be much happier if he'd fill it in so that I could have a beautiful green lawn out front. Maybe I'll convince him to think my way once he gets tired of all the upkeep... that's what I've been telling myself for the past 20 years! ;-)

  1. Oh yes, I like spontaneous parties too! Love that shuttle with the cut outs - where did it come from? Pretty thread for this spinning wheel.

  6. And we in Australia have it in September! I think I agree with you about the pond, maybe you could put a ring of rocks around it, fill it in and plant a beautiful tree in it's place.

  7. Spontaneous parties are the best--no agro from all the prep and planning. Glad you had a good day. Today I started tatting a MK pattern, but it looked too chunky so I'll have to try a finer thread.

  8. We used to have a small pond, too but it fell into neglect. Finally had it removed and had a deck in its place.

Pretty shuttles and, as always, lovely tatting.

  9. Oh the pond dilemma. My husband went to Pond College and built ours. I love it but as the years rush by and our age and health get in the way our pond is not getting the attention it needs. Very sad indeed. Love this thread color for your latest Spinnng Wheel Mat.
