I was looking for an oval motif for a present I'm working on, and I found "Judith" in Tatting Patterns by Lyn Morton.

I tatted both motifs out of size 20 HDT from Sherry Pence... Rainbow Sherbet and Tie Dye Blue. I tatted the Rainbow Sherbet first, but I was disappointed for two reasons: 1) I made my joins incorrectly, so the finished piece doesn't lie flat, and 2) it's too pale for the background it will be on. Sigh! I knew before I started that I was making the wrong color choice.

Luckily, this is a very simple piece to tat (as long as you join correctly), so I tatted the Tie Dye Blue while we watched the Bears/Vikings game this afternoon. I think the blue will be perfect for the setting... I'll post a picture when Dave has finished with his part of the project.

  1. Very nice, Diane. Your motifs look lovely.

  2. Thanks, TattingChic! I seem to get better the more I tat a pattern... maybe I should make 7 of these so that they look as nice as my Spinning Wheels are starting to look! ; )

  3. Did you borrow Pamela's house elf? I have no idea how you manage to tat so many doilies! They are very pretty and I can't wait to see the finished product.

  4. Laura, I should borrow Pamela's house elf... the dust bunnies are multiplying! This motif is actually very small 2 1/2" x 3 1/2". I was inspired to shop at Michael's after seeing your thread winders, and I have Dave finishing a box for me. This motif will go in the top of the box. I can't wait to see it finished myself!

  5. Do you not belong to the coalition for the protection and preservation of dust bunnies? Birmingham has it's own chapter and I am the president and Bill is the historian!
I can't wait to see the box!

  6. Hello Diane,
Thanks for the nice comments you left on my blog about my newest doll. I absolutely adore tatted lace and have had my mother show me how to do it several times, but I didn't practice it enough for it to stick, so I'll have to get her to show me - again! She's 83, so I'd better get her to show me soon while she can still do it!
PS I'm going to have a good look at what you have here now.

  7. I can picture a lovely shade of coral rose behind the "rainbow sherbert".

  8. I had to go look up the pattern! You know, the hearts never jumped out at me in the book like they do in your scans. Maybe it's the thread???
    Very nice job.

Just like you, I love getting feedback!
