Good news!

Two Starlit shuttles hold one skein of HDT! Yippee!

Can you guess what I'm tatting? It's been a while, but I just gave four of them away, so I really need to tat some more. Yup... my favorite pattern... Mary Konior's Spinning Wheel glass mat!

This is size 20 HDT, but I lost the tag... again! I think this is one of LadyShuttleMaker's threads. I'm proud/ashamed to say that I have so much thread, that without a tag, I am clueless!

While I'm very pleased with the amount of thread these shuttles hold, I am not a fan of the pic, but then I'm not really a fan of any shuttle with a pic. I tend to separate the threads when I'm joining to picots, and I find a crochet hook much easier to use. The pic is similar in size to the old Boye shuttles. It does not come to a sharp point like the Clover or Sew Mate shuttles. The plastic is closer in feel to the Sew Mates. If Handy Hands comes out with the same shuttles without pics, I'm afraid I will be forced to buy every color! : )

I really, really, really like the thread holder! I had forgotten that it came with a ball of size 20 thread, which is inside the holder. There's no choice in color, but who cares? It's a bonus in my mind!

All in all, I'm very happy with my new purchases. Now all I need is a little more time to tat!

  1. I recognized the pattern even before you mentioned the name!

    color is nice

After seeing your previous post with a photo of every color thread holder, I immediately went to mom and told her I had to get one..

  2. Looks like a beautiful pattern even in it's beginning stages and as always, I love your thread colour! Happily I finally found someone in our guild who knows how to tat & will have time in the new year to set me straight. For some reason I have a huge mental block & haven't been able to figure it out.

  3. Hi Diane, Thanks for the last two posts on the new Starlit Shuttles. I was wondering about them. Now I know I have to have a few. And of course I need some of the thread holders. Did you get the same color thread in all the holders? I see one is a variegatged green.
And of course you are tatting the Spinning Wheel. I think you could tat it in your sleep by now!! Such a pretty pattern.

  5. If you have a Dremel or just a sander, you can remove the pics (OR sharpen them). Sometimes, even a nail file will do it.

  6. I think the thread is LadyShuttleMakers Americana...only because I have some too :-). That pattern is fun to tat! I like the looks of those shuttles...going to have to get a couple at least!!!

  7. I really liked the red boye shuttles with the pic when I was learning how to tat. The tatsy was awful in my opinion.

Now I prefer a shuttle without a hook or pic, and use crochet hook, too. The clover, amber shuttles are nice.

As are the Lacis without point.

The starlite look so interesting tho, I may cave and buy a couple. And wonderful to hold so much fiber!!! would be perfect with fibers -n- beads.

  8. I don't care for picks on shuttles either, but when I saw your pictures, I just had to order a couple to try. I also ordered a ball holder cuz how neat are they? And while I was ordering, a couple of balls of thread just happened to fall into my shopping cart -oops! You should be getting a commission or something,

  9. My brother-in-law worked on the design of the ball holder and the shuttles. But do you think he'd give me any free samples? Noooo!
