Out of control!

Yes, dear friends. It's true... my project space is out of control!

As I sit in my favorite chair, this is the mess to my left...

and this is the mess to my right. How did I reach this point? My friend Denise would tell you that we both suffer from "Flight of Fancy." In other words, we're each easily distracted. I really don't know how I reached this point. Shall I share with you what created this mess?

About a year ago, my granddaughter Lily asked me to make her a star blanket in light blue and dark blue. Crocheting afghans is not my favorite thing to do, but how can a grandma say no? Lily will be here in one week. I'm hoping to finish her star blanket by then. I wonder if she even remembers asking for it?

I was inspired to start a crocheted doily because of Anika's posts. Honestly, I love thread crochet, but it doesn't hold a candle to tatting. So, a doily that I used to be able to finish in one day is now in its second week.

The Grant Park Drama Club alumni are going to perform Chicago at the beginning of August as a fund raiser. I was asked to contribute a raffle item, so I'm knitting a shawlette in this pretty peach color. Denise told me about a free pattern on Ravelry called Summer Flies. The pattern is very easy to follow, and I know I have time to finish it!

I'm still tatting Stumpy motifs for The Shuttle Shop. You might think that this would be a tiresome project,  but it's not! I love seeing how each color thread looks tatted up, and I'm really enjoying using pretty shuttles from my collection!

Speaking of shuttles from my collection... the blinging bug has struck, and I found some shuttles stashed away that were just screaming for a little bling! Sigh... what's a girl to do?

I really need to clean up/organize my mess. I have family descending in a week to celebrate my 60th birthday... at my request... so I guess I'd better get to work... after a little tatting. ; )

  1. Looks about like my space...an Afghan, a stack of kitchen towels to edge, 4 tatting projects, and a lacy crochet shrug.

  2. No, no, NO, you can't be 60 in a week. I don't believe you. So, you think that's a mess - you should see my 'tat corner'!!!! Maybe I'll post a picture of mine soon!!!!

  3. If that's messy I don't know what to think of my table! It's probably 5x worse. You crocheting is so nice and neat. :)

  4. If it helps, I'm jealous! I wish I had a spot like that to leave my crafty mess!! As it is, I have my little boxes & bags with things in them, but I have to completely put them up when I get ready to take a break! If I don't, someone will fall over my mess probably before my 2 year old undoes all my work! :)

  5. Diane, you are so brave to show "your work area". I would never show "my work area". It is ten times worse. (I don't like to waste the time putting it all away and then having to take it all out again when I'm ready to get back to work. That's just precious time to me.) I hate it when I have 16 different things going at one time, but sometimes that's just how it is.

  7. Oh goodness, I'm glad to see someone else has numerous projects on the go, and an 'interesting' work space! Good luck with meeting all your deadlines.

  8. Ok, close your eyes and you won't see the mess, but be careful when walking around cuz' you might trip or bump into something. :D
Actually I think we all get to that point on and off again. :)
I love the look of that blue Star!! :)

  9. Thanks for that Diane... I am with others who said at least you have a work space... and also agree everything is beautiful, I can see why you are doing each and every thing!

  10. You at least are creating and actually finishing MANY things, even though you may have a few UFOs. And pre-Happy Birthday greetings! You have a youthful outlook and are young at heart. Have a great party!

  12. I'm SO glad I am not the only one!!! And I have a whole room of my own PLUS my "cockpit" in the living room. Creative minds are NOT neat. At least that's what I tell everyone ;)

  13. Your "mess" actually looks very tidy to me! You would be appalled at mine, LOL.

Hope you have a fabulously happy birthday, Diane!

  14. I just recently learned shuttle tatting ( had previously done needle tatting, but I am enchanted by the shuttle), and have now discovered your blog. Don't feel too badly...I have multiple projects going in nearly all of the fiber arts, but at 59 years of age, I feel entitled!

  17. I am thinking that all your problems (messy craft area, too many projects, etc) would resolve themselves nicely if you had more time to craft. So skip the housework and resolve the important problems.

Summer Flies is on my short list as well. I have a couple of almost finished projects on the needles and then I am committed to a fairly large test knit, but soon.

  18. Nothing wrong with that space, mine is restricted to a set of eight drawers beside my TV chair, which I tidy every now and then when I can't find what I want. Same number of project on the go which means that we are all the same, taking inspiration from what we are doing and enjoying the process.
