I subbed for high school English yesterday, which gave me time to tat. Imagine my dismay when I realized I'd left my picot gauge at home!
It seems I can never find a picot gauge when I need one, so I keep them stashed all over the house. Still, I didn't have one with me yesterday, so I tatted without one. These are destined to be given away. Maybe I'm too picky, but the unevenness of the picots is enough to drive me crazy!
I can see what you mean! I didn't mind very much about the unevenness of my picots until I bought a gauge "just to see what the fuss was about". I couldn't tat without it now!

DeleteAwwww, life’s too short to worry about gauges, Diane!! They’d not been invented when I started tatting so everything was eyeballed and that’s the way I’ve always worked!!! Get those eyes working, lass!!!!

ReplyDeleteYou can use anything to be a picot gauge if you think about it. My go-to picot gauges have been the (now extinct) Mc Donald's stirring sticks for coffee, but I have others from random items-so it's just a thought in case it happens again and you think about what might be available. ;)

DeleteI rarely use a gauge. Find it much more fun to eyeball and not disrupt the flow of work 😉

If I had had a piece of card stock handy, I would have used it!
DeleteOn rare occasions when I absolutely need to measure, I like lined paper (like college ruled notebook paper) to compare the picots to.

DeleteLots of suggestions for next time you forget your gauge! I only use a gauge if I’m making very long picots and then I use a bit of cardboard.

DeleteI don't even see the uneven picots, and it seems you did graduated ones 'on purpose' on the middle ice drop which looks just fine. I never knew there were picot gauges until the blogs, and I think I made one from folded paper when I needed an extra long picot.

I wouldn't be happy having to get out into the cold weather early in the morning! I'm glad I can just stay cozy and warm.
I guess my problem is that I really like things neat and tidy when I can make them that way! The weather really wasn't too bad this past week, but this upcoming one looks like it could be nasty!

ReplyDeleteHave never owned a picot gauge and not likely to in the future. If I ever did it would just get lost. Just don't like stopping to measure, life is too short!!! Really can't tell that you did not use one anyway.
